“The warranty covered the parts, but not the labor. The manufacturer only covers labor if you go to an authorized dealer for your make and model, of which I, unfortunately, am not.”
“That’s bullshit. It’s not my fault that the car broke down out here.”
“I don’t make the rules.” He shrugged. “And you still owe for renting Cal’s cabin your first night in town.”
“What? But I—” She sighed and rolled her eyes. He hadn’t seen her do that in a while. “Oh, all right. I’ll pick up the car and we’ll settle up once I get back from Madison.”
“Sorry, but I can’t hand over the keys until you pay your bill. Garage policy.”
Her eyebrows shifted. “Get serious, Sonny.”
“I am being serious,” he said, as a devilishly dirty idea came to mind. “However, I could make an exception if you’re open to working out a deal.”
She tapped her foot on the ground. “I’m listening.”
“Meet me at the shop tonight at ten. Use the side door. Oh, and one more thing. Wear something easy to remove.”
