“I think they didn’t tell the Boise alpha because he was… off. I don’t get any bad vibes from Deacon, do you?”

He shakes his head and his eyes droop. “No. I trust you, baby.”

I pull out my phone and call the alpha and ask him to come to my house for a private meeting. Only him. I text all of the guards and ask them to stay in the basement for a bit… just in case.

Ten minutes later, I’m leading our new alpha to my living room and he grimaces when he sees Mac.

“Mac… Christ. I’m glad you’re here, son.” He sits down on the couch on the opposite side of us and he sighs. “I had a meeting today with your four guards, and we discussed adding more to your family. The four you have now made it a point that there’s only four bedrooms in the basement and I would prefer you to be close to them and not have them streets away. So for now… it’s just four.” He sends us a stern look and I shrug.

“I’m fine with just the four, alpha. Thank you.” He folds his hands in his lap and waits for me to continue. “Well… I don’t really know how to start this. I’ve never told anyone, it was my parents that did.” I chew on my inner cheek and fiddle with my fingers. “I have healing magic. I was born with it, and it was kept a secret until we moved to Prescott, and my parents deemed our old alpha worthy of knowing the information. I can heal anything. Broken bones, lacerations, stab wounds… nerve damage and scar tissue. Intestinal blockages…”

He blinks at me and furrows his brows.

“I wanted you to be here to watch as I heal Mac so you didn’t think I’m crazy. I became a vet because animals can’t talk. I’ve been a pack healer in two different packs and never showed anyone outside of my parents and our old alpha. When I worked with shifters and needed to use my powers, I always sedated them first, which I can also do.”

He is still silent and I sigh and look over to Mac and grimace at him. “Can you get undressed to your briefs so that I can check out the damage and heal you?” He nods and stands up and slowly removes his shoes, shirt, and pants before sitting down again with a grunt. I peel off his bandages from his head, shoulder, and thigh and look them over. “As you can see, he has three wounds that have been cleaned, stitched, and bandaged. As a magical healer, I would just use saline to wash out the wound then work my… magic.” I smile at Mac and lightly sedate him as I start on his thigh.

My hands glow a bright gold as it seeps deep into the tissues and the wound closes from the inside, out. “If you want you get closer, you can.” I glance over to Deacon and he slowly steps forward and bends over my head to watch. “The thigh is healed and he will have some soreness, but it’ll just feel like a bruise.”

I heal his shoulder, moving on to his head and my magic removes the stitches one by one.

The alpha is silent as he steps back and rubs his hands down his face. “I won’t tell a soul, but… excuse my language… fucking thank fuck you’re here, Angela. If we had you before… you can heal fatal wounds. A lot of our men deal with the crime and mafia human idiots all over the state. We own a lot of businesses all over the place. Our pack is stabbed, threatened… shot. We don’t have many issues out here, but there are still accidents that happen that stitches and a pat on the back won’t heal. We’ve lost at least a hundred females during birth in the last century…” He sits back down on the couch and stares at me with awe.

“I’ll do a blood oath, I will never tell a soul, not even my mate or children… I do suggest you mention this to your guards and do the oath. It’s a tradition that is seldom used, but in this instance…”

Mac kisses my cheek and stands up, stretching out his body with a low chuckle. He hastily dresses himself and frowns at the alpha. “I thought blood oaths were a myth.”

Deacon shakes his head. “No, shady shifters will say it’s a myth because of the detrimental outcomes of breaking them. It can kill you if you don’t uphold the promise. Blood oaths can be safely broken, so don’t worry.”

“How does it work?”

“We just need a clean knife and a bowl that you can trash. Nothing insane. We slice our hands, say our vows, oath, or promise, then we shake hands.” He spreads his arms and smiles at me. “Sounds simple, and it is, as long as you’re making the oath honest people.”

I shrug and stand up to grab what I need. “Mac can you go grab the guys? They’re in the basement.” I shuffle to the kitchen and grab a clean knife from the block and a large plastic bowl that I can throw out. There’s a million of them in the pantry. I sit back down on the couch and place the knife in the bowl and wait.

The guards surround us with confused expressions and I cock a brow at the alpha and he laughs at me. “Well gentlemen, it seems out new healer is much more special than we thought. You’ve been educated in blood oaths, and today we will be making one. Angela has healing powers. I watched her work on Mac with my own eyes and it’s magnificent. We need to keep her safe, and in doing do, the oath protects not only her, but the pack from it ever getting out. After today, you will not be able to utter a word about her magic to others outside this circle without severe consequences. Do you all accept?”

They all nod and stare at me with wide eyes as I ignore them. The alpha slices his hand and passes the knife around and when it gets to me, I grimace as I do it quickly before passing it to Mac.

“I, Alpha Deacon York of the New York Pack, promise to protect and not speak of any magic or powers that Angela Miller possesses. I promise to uphold this agreement to the blood oath commandments and will take this secret to my grave.” He looks at me and I follow his wording to keep my magical knowledge to only the shifters in this room and we shake hands. He goes down the line and has them all repeat the words he said and by the time we’re done, the bowl has a decent amount of blood from having to reopen the wounds as everyone made their vow to the alpha and to me.

I smirk at them all as I lightly touch their hands and all of them are healed in moments from my glowing hands.

“Well, gentlemen. Tom and Ella will be by soon with dinner, you’re all more than welcome to stay if you’d like?”

Deacon shakes his head and pulls me in for a hug. “Spend time with your family tonight.” He looks over at Mac and claps him on his good shoulder. “I want to see you in my office next week. Take this week to relax and decompress, then you’ll go through a training program for new betas when you’re ready.”

Mac smiles widely and pulls me into his arms. “Thank you, alpha. See you in a week.”

We sit back down and I invite the guys to stick around. “So… Any of you have any questions?”

Russell sits up straight and shrugs. “What else can you do?”

Well, ain’t that the million-dollar question.
