“This is not prison,” Patrick sighed. “This is jail.”
“In a small town!” I shouted, turning to face him. “Did you see that cop? He looked like he would arrest us and throw away the key!”
“Look, Chase will work this out. Don’t worry.”
“Don’t worry?” I laughed. “I have no ID. I have no way of proving who I am!”
He lounged back on the bench, crossing his arms over his chest. “And like I said, it won’t be a problem. We are a security company. We have a legitimate reason to keep your identity a secret.”
I snorted at that. “Yeah, if I was in danger and in need of your services.”
“He doesn’t know that.”
“No, but how can you prove it? I mean, they could throw me in prison and toss away the key! And no one would be able to save me because I have no identity.”
“Again, they don’t throw you in prison for car sex,” he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Maybe not you. You’re all hunky and you have that smile and…you have a gimpy leg. They’ll let you go in an instant.”
“And you’re sexy as hell. You think they’re going to send you to prison just because your hair is messy?”
“Okay, I might be panicking just a little,” I said, bending over at the waist.
“A little?”
I took deep breaths and tried to calm my racing heart. Every time I thought too much about our present circumstances, I thought I would vomit. “I am most definitely never doing that again.”
“Sex?”
“Car sex.”
A low growl emanated from the bench. “Don’t even fucking talk to me about sleeping with other men when I’m still here.”
“Oh, like you’re not thinking about what you might do when we part ways?”
He shrugged lightly. “Hadn’t even thought about it. Your pussy is the only thing on my mind.”
“How sweet,” I snapped.
“I thought it was. You know, you’re getting way too worked up about this. You know I wouldn’t let anything happen to you.”
“Really? I jumped out of a plane because of you!”
A door slammed and I spun around, racing to the jail cell door just as the officer walked in.
“You have to let me out of here! You have no idea what I’ve been through!”
“Your friend was telling me all about it. Not sure I believe any of it,” he muttered.
“Which part? I asked incredulously.
“The whole thing, frankly.”
I couldn’t believe this. “It’s all true.”
“Yeah? So, you really did meet this guy and just get on a private plane with him?”
“Yes!”
