Logan wanted to be there, but he hadn’t been invited.
Right now, after the dizzying moment of their swift andunexpected reconciliation, Logan kind of wanted to be everywhere Connor was.
And that, he realized, might be a very big problem.
“Okay, let me say it then.” Donnie reconnected the drill bitwith a large bolt. “You were a huge dick, taking over the meeting like that.”
“Yeah, well, it didn’t actually work out in my favor. So Ilearned my lesson.”
“Which he probably saw coming. Which is probably why he letyou do it.” He let out another piercing shriek of the drill, then gave up. “Motherfuck, did they weld these things inhere?”
“He’s good,” Logan said. “Way better at this than I thoughthe’d be.”
“At unscrewing these fuckers?”
“No. At managing the hotel.”
Two guests walked by dragging suitcases, a middle-aged manand woman dressed for the beach. Holdouts, perhaps. Or maybe they’d waiteduntil they’d found a room or flight before heading to the checkout desk.
“Kinda late for that, don’t you think?” the man muttered asthey veered around Donnie’s ladder.
“Would you like a bellman to assist?” Logan called.
“No, thanks. I don’t want him going through my watch case,”the man barked.
Donnie scaled half the ladder, then hopped the rest of theway to the floor. In one fist he held the remains of the camera they’ddismantled. “Get used to it. It’s going to be like that for a while.”
“For as long as we have guests. Which shouldn’t be very long,”Logan grumbled.
“Ooof. Touché. Here you go.”
Donnie handed him the camera’s lens and battery backup pack.
“I can handle it from the guests, but my coworkers…” Logansaid. “I figured they’d have more respect for me.”
“They probably do. They’re just afraid. And people are dumbwhen they’re afraid. Give ’emtime. So are youdirector of security yet?”
“Yeah, it didn’t seem like the right moment to jockey for apromotion.”
“I thought you said you and Connor had a good talk,” Donniesaid.
“We did, but we’re not going to clear all the air between usin an afternoon.”
“It was one kiss. Five years ago. Get over it. Move on.”
Logan fell silent.
“What?” Donnie asked.
“I jerk off to his Instagram,” Logan whispered.
“Aw, shit, dude.”
“It’s not even that thirsty either. It’s, like, him fully dressed, holding a bunch of flowers.”
“Maybe you’re jerking off to the flowers,” Donnie offered.
“I’m not, Donnie. I’m not jerking off to the flowers.”
