“Some of both, I think. She’ll give you a run for yourmoney.”
“I never understood that expression,” his dad said, but hewas already tucking his shirt in and adjusting his sleeves and running throughall the other gestures he performed right before approaching an intriguing ladyfor the first time. “Who wants to run for their money?”
Logan patted him on the back, like he was a runner leavingthe starting mark. If Chip got the joke, he didn’t let on, because his eyeswere already on Donna Langdon as he and his friends moved toward the bar.
Once he was back upstairs and heading for the door of the penthousesuite, Joel gave him a sad look. A guilty look. Logan read the signsimmediately.
“Where is he?” Logan asked.
“Don’t be mad.”
“I told you not to let him leave the room.”
“He’s my boss, dude. I can’t order him around. He said togive you this.”
Something about the phrasing set Logan back a bit.Technically, Connor was Logan’s boss too, which meant technically Loganshouldn’t be ordering Connor around either. But they’d made an agreement, andthis wasn’t it.
Was it an agreement, though? Or an order. An order hedidn’t seem to mind.
Joel handed Logan something orange, something familiar.
“Besides, Brandon’s with him,” Joel added.
A pack of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. And there was a littledrawing taped to it. A pen sketch of the balustrade right outside the DolphinBallroom, one of the many drawings of scenic spots on the property they includedwith the stationery in each room. And the spot where they had their first realconversation.
“He said don’t keep him waiting,” Joel added.
“We’ll talk about this later.” But he was having troublesounding like a hard ass, thanks to Connor’s gift.
“He’s myboss, dude,” Joel whined.

When Logan reached the balustrade, there wasBrandon, standing at the exact spot where Logan and Connor had enjoyed theirfirst conversation five years before. Even though the guy was Logan’s size, hewore a hangdog, sheepish expression as Logan approached.
“Where is he?” Logan asked.
“He wouldn’t let me go all the way, I’m sorry. And he saidto give you this.”
It was another pack of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. This onehad a drawing of the sea caves taped to it.
“Where is he?” Logan asked.
“The caves.”
“You let him go all the way down to the caves by himself?” Loganbarked.
“I had to. He’s my boss.”
“And he reminded you of the fact, I take it,” Logan said.
“Like twenty times.”
“You’re lucky I need you guys.”
“Come on, Logan. He’s my—”
“I know. He’s your boss. I get it.”
