“Our yoke is equal now,” Diehl added.
Skye recalled 2 Corinthians 6:14 that Avery had reminded her about the other day.
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
Now that Diehl was on equal footing with Skye, where would they go from here?
“Sometimes it takes difficult times in life to get people to run to God,” Diehl said. “Today, I know I believe in the real Jesus, not my own idea of who God is.”
“That’s good to hear.” Quietly, Skye prayed that Diehl would grow in his faith in Jesus Christ.
“Well, it’s almost midnight, and you’ve had a long day. I have to get up early to go to the Men’s Bible Study.”
“That’s why the Women’s Bible Study is in the evenings.” Skye yawned. “I need to read my Bible and then go to bed.”
“What verse are you reading?”
“Our women’s Bible Study group is starting the book of Galatians next week, so we were told to read through chapter one this week. I figured I’d do that since I will miss Bible Study on Tuesday night.”
“We’re on a summer schedule, apparently, in the Men’s study,” Diehl said. “I don’t know who’s speaking tomorrow morning, but it’s topical. Last week, we studied Galatians 6.”
“That’s a good chapter.”
“We went over a couple of verses, but I can’t remember which one.”
“Who’s teaching tomorrow?” Skye asked.
“I have no idea.”
Skye nodded, though Diehl couldn’t see her. “Have fun. You can tell me what you learn tomorrow and I’ll do likewise.”
“Will do. Good night, sweetheart.”
Sweetheart? Did he mean it?
Skye didn’t reply.
“Skye?” Diehl asked.
“Yes?”
“Is something wrong?”
Skye wasn’t sure how to say it.
“Tell me,” Diehl said quietly.
He seemed to want to know what was on her mind. Should she tell him?
“There are verses in the Bible that talks about the old man versus the new man,” Skye said. “When we get saved, we do away with the old things. The old things pass away, the Bible says. We’re no longer who we were before.”
Specifically, Skye thought of Romans 6:6, but she wasn’t sure whether Diehl was ready for it. She knew that God would work in his heart in due time.
…knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
“I know. God opened my eyes and I can see clearly,” Diehl said. “Is that what you meant?”
“There’s more, but God will show you in His time.” It was all she could say.
