She sings to me.
Every not hanging in the air between us.
I am her. She is me.
It’s too much.

Tears streak down my face as I rush from my seat, out of the private box to collect myself.
“Jessie?” He touches my elbow lightly.
I spin around, my nails dig into my palms, as I stare up at the dark lord who still rules my heart. “The song. It’s me. Every note; every word. It’s how I felt when you left me. Broken; like a jagged memory.”
He inhales sharply. “I’m sorry, do you want to leave?”
“I-I don’t know. I’m enjoying myself. I won’t deny it. But fuck, Christos! My life was finally going in the direction I wanted. And then you showed—”
“Was it?” He challenges, backing me up behind a velvet curtain. “Are you really happy? Working in a pub, waiting tables…mucking out stalls instead of riding?”
My chin lifts bringing us face to face. “Yes. I am happy. And it kills you doesn’t it? Because I didn’t have you?”
“You’re wrong,” he whispers against my lips. “all I wanted was this. For you to fly. But now it’s time to fly back home…to me.”
I cry as his lips take mine. My hands fist the lapels of his coat half pushing him away while yanking the damn devil closer.
My mouth parts.
My body melts.
It’s as if time reversed as his tongue sweeps inside my mouth. He claims it. Round and round we go. Spinning out of control just as we always did.
I’ve missed him so much.
But I won’t be his fool again.
“Kardiá mou,”he whispers against my lips as he pulls back panting. His hands frame my face, he peppers kisses everywhere. I moan as he finds the spot between my neck and shoulder.
“I can’t.” I whisper, stepping to the side.
His eyes are fire as he stares at me inching away. Applause erupts from inside the theatre. Her solo must be over.
We exit.
Her behind the curtains and me outside.
I hail a cab, looking over my shoulder as Christos watchesme climb inside. We stare at each other through the back window.
I shiver.
He’ll never give up.
Standing three feet away isn’t the golden man who smiled for months as he traveled the world. The man staring at me is allEl Diablo. He’s ruthless and determined and I know what he wants…. what hecraves. Because God help me, I want it too.
