He grunts. “Dress warm it’s cold out. Let’s find our tree.”
We hike hand in hand, through the woods. “There. That’s the one.” I point to a tall evergreen.
“Are you sure? It’s over twenty feet tall.”
“I’m sure. It’ll look perfect in the grand entrance.”
He trims a few of the lower branches with the cutter then starts swinging his ax at the trunk.
“This is damn sexy. Almost as sexy as you in a suit.”
He rolls his eyes at me.
“Did you just—”
“I did.”
The tree falls to the ground.
He puts his tools down and takes my hand. “There’s something I want to show you.” We hike further into the woods, climbing a steep hill. “Oh, Christos, it’s breathtaking.” He led me to a vista. From up here, we can see the fields below, the barn and the house. The sun is setting, turning the sky on fire.
He bends on one knee, “Jessie—I’ve loved you a thousand lifetimes. Our souls are Entwined, probably since the dawn of existence. Be my wife, my love, my everything—death will never part us. Remember, we race against the sky together as one.” He reaches into his pocket, pulling out a solitaire yellow diamond in a platinum setting. “A golden ring for my golden one.”
“It’s perfect. You are perfect! Yes!” I cry as he places the ring on my finger and swings me around in his arms. He knows me so well; proposing to me in the beautiful woods, not in some ritzy restaurant. “I can’t wait to fill our home with babies… fur babies too. Can we get a dog for Christmas?”
“I’d like that.” We kiss as the sun goes down, using the stars to guide us back home.
