“Yeah, funny. Cut the shit,” Shanna snorts.

He smacks her ass just enough to smart. “I’m not joking. You put yourself and my baby in danger.”

“How? By needing some space to breathe?”

They start screaming at one another.

“Anything could have happened. There’s miles of icy roads!” He roars.

Rog berates Dev with a serious of grunts and growls. His voice is low as he speaks. I shiver in Smith’s hold. Rog is a fuck-ton scarier than Duke.

“Just wait, babe. You’ve crossed Creed. We’re gonna have a vote on your punishment.”

I stare up at him incredulously, “You wouldn’t.”

“We would,” Duke replies stiffly, cutting Trent free with a pocket knife before hauling Shanna inside the house. Rog throws Dev over his shoulder and follows.

“Don’t you dare!” Comes out in a whoosh as Smith follows suit, balancing me over his wide shoulders and placing his palm on my ass to keep me from wriggling free.

“I hate you! You beast!” I pound his back with my fists.

“I told you I’d find you…”

Trapped in his arms, I’m terrified. Because I know he’s not going to let go, and I hope I’m strong enough to stand my ground with him this time.

As soon as he carries me inside, he puts me down and grabs the side of my head. Our kiss is recklessly beautiful. I don’t care we’re in a cramped, crowded room. It’s been months since I tasted him… since our lips met. Despite everything, the pull between us is still strong.

“Luce… baby,” he breathes against my lips, seconds before conquering them again. I don’t even care what planet I’m on as he lifts me, cupping my ass in his large palms and walks us to the nearest bedroom. The door shuts behind him with an ominous thud. His low voice cuts across the dim room as I’m tossed onto a bed.

“Do you remember what I said would happen, when I caught you, babe?”

“Which time?” I stupidly baited. Coming out of my Smith-induced-lust.

He steps forward. The clouds must’ve shifted because a few beams of moonlight shine into the room showing me the glint in his eyes.

“I’m not afraid.” My chin lifts. “And this…” I point between the two of us, “Isn’t happening again.”

He’s still a sexy AF mountain man, but I’ve changed. Somewhere in the long, cold, nights I became a woman who won’t be hurt or fooled again.

“You’re cute. Thinking that you’re in control.” The corners of his mouth lift as he looks down with hot eyes.

“I am in control. Now get out. I’m hungry, cold and tired and want nothing to do with you. How in the heck did you get a Learjet anyway?”

He plants his feet apart, with hands on his hips he scowls, “No matter what happened between us…. when you took Trent—you took our personal business and made it part of my MC. I can’t have that Luce. Not if we are getting back together. All of you could’ve been killed.”

“But we weren’t…. and…we aren’t.”

He lifts a brow, “Are you sure about that, cupcake?”

“Yeah, I’m sure.” I snort, hiding my balled fists inside the coat Dev bought. I’m still wildly attracted to this man, but the sweetness of his kiss always leaves me feeling stung.

“I’m not the same man you met, last summer. Maybe, it’s for the best. There’s so much about me that you don’t know… that only a few in my trusted circle, know.”

“I’m not the same woman you met either. And that hurts… so much. That you never included me in that circle.”

“Maybe, we’ll just have to get to know one another all over again?”

“Did I ever really know you?” I whisper into the dark.
