So, I did.

Right in the cold stream and cupped my hands full of chilly water to splash all over her.

“Something brushed my leg!” Shrieking, she jumped back into my arms.

“Easy, babe. It’s just a trout.”

She wound her arms around my neck and kissed me.

“Lucas?”

“Yeah, babe?”

“I think I like living in the woods—a lot. I don’t miss the city at all.

“Good. ‘Cause I’m never letting ya’ ever go back.”

With her hand gripped firmly in mine, we stepped over the slippery river rocks, up the bank, and through the woods back to our clothes.

I picked up my plaid shirt, slipping her arms through and buttoned it up. It hung to her knees but damn, she looked cute. I tucked her hair behind her ear. “It fits.”

“It smells of you and pine needles. I’m keeping it.” She held the ends to her nose. I forced myself to look away from the honeypot between her thighs before I ravished her again.

Smacking her ass, I said, “Get a move on babe. Daddy is taking you home.”

“You sound like Rog,” she giggled, pulling her jean shorts on. She slipped back into her sandals and took my hand. “I need a real shower. A hot one.”

We walked back to the house in contented silence. I walked behind her as she climbed the steps on the side of the house to Dev’s second floor apartment. As she opened the door the smell of Cheetos and beer wafted out.

“Sorry. We played Texas hold ’em with Mac and Federico last night.”

I tried to control it, but I couldn’t.

My hands clenched.

I was jealous as hell that my men were spending time with her while I couldn’t. Mac’s been stationed in Springdale since the end of summer. He and Federico have been taking turns tailing the women and watching them at night. The MC has enemies. I needed Luce protected but at the same time didn’t want to scare her from taking a chance on me.

“Babe? What’s wrong?” She asked noticing my silence hanging over us like a thunder cloud.

“I wish it was me. I want to be the one drinking wine and making you laugh.”

She cupped the side of my face. “I told you I’m staying. For good. Now come wash the dirt off my back.”

I followed her to the bathroom. “We both won’t fit in that tiny-ass shower,” I grumbled.

“I promise not to hog all the hot water,” she teased, stripping again. She carefully folded my shirt, placing it high on a shelf. “We’ll never leave if you keep staring at me like that.”

Mumbling under my breath, I walked out and waited my turn. True to her word she was quick, and the hot spray felt good as I rinsed off.

Luce scribbled out a note for Dev and grabbed her things. “Ok, let’s go.” Hand-in-hand we practically ran down to the truck, laughing like teenage lovers getting their first taste of freedom.

I stopped at the diner just outside of town and picked up the order I called in a half hour earlier. Luce cuddled against my side. The smell of homemade food filled my cab. I sighed, content in the peaceful moment I had with my girl. I knew once we reached California everything would change. She’d see what life was like inside a real MC, not TV bullshit. It would be our first test to see if our lives could blend, hopefully not bleed together.
