I know he probably won’t answer my question, but I’m too curious now. The only time I was with him, he was wearing swimming trunks. If things keep progressing tonight the way they have been, I’ll find out sooner than later.
Chapter Seven
ALEX
I don’t bother answeringher questions.
She won’t remember the questions tomorrow because she’s drunk. Hell, she can’t even walk. At least she’s not as drunk as Kate. I just hope she stays home and alone tonight.
Is this how they de-stresses after Elise gets off work for the weekend? It’s not safe and quite irresponsible. Just look at the guy that was eyeing them tonight.
I don’t want to think about what could have happened if I wasn’t there to intervene. Not that I think Elise is helpless. I know she’s tougher than she appears, but I feel the need to watch over her and protect her.
She laughs and sways a little as she leans against the door, trying to line the key up with the lock.
I reach for her keys and offer to help. “Here, let me help.”
She glares at me, like I just told her she’s incompetent.
“I can unlock the door, Alex. I’m not a child. I just need the key to be a little smaller.” She snorts and lets out a giggle. “I’d say that’s what she said, but no one in their right mind would want a, umm, key to be smaller.”
Her joke catches me off guard. Out of all the things I could have guessed that would come out of her mouth, this was nowhere on the list.
Except for the night we met, Elise has always appeared to be uptight and prudish, from her conservative work clothing to the things she says.
Maybe this job, her working for my dad, has made her more controlled and tight-lipped. I like her like this and will do anything to bring this side of her out more, especially now that I know it’s in her.
She lets out a frustrated sigh as she drops her hand that’s holding her keys. “Okay, I give up. I can’t do this. The key is too big. I need a smaller one.”
Wrapping my hand around her smaller one, I whisper in her ear. “You didn’t have a problem with the size before.”
My voice is huskier than usual, and my dick hardens past the point of pleasure.
She leans back into me and rests her head on my shoulder. “Can you just do it?”
A deep growl forms in my chest. I plan on doingjust that as soon as she helps restart the alarm system and I drive us home.
With my hand still wrapped around hers, I guide the key into the lock and help her unlock the door.
She opens the door and steps inside the dim office building. I follow close behind her and lock the door back.
I place my hand on the small of her back as we walk together to the security room at the back of the building.
Before we get to the room, she glances over at me. “Have you met Peter before?”
Her voice is barely over a whisper, like she doesn’t want him to hear us talking about him.
I shake my head. “No, why?”
Does it really matter if I’ve met him? Have all the other employees met him? Is there something wrong with him? Or is it me she’s worried about?
“No reason. I was just curious.”
There’s something else in her look that I can’t pinpoint. It looks like hesitancy or maybe it’s confusion or understanding.
“Should I be worried about meeting Peter?”
She comes to a stop outside of the room and shakes her head. “I’m starting to put the pieces together.”
