“She can’t,” he said before she could agree.

Chelsea and Jasper both swivelled their heads toward him, and he smiled.

“You speak for her now?” Jasper asked.

Chelsea snorted beside him, so he smiled wider.

“She can’t go with you, because she’s already coming to the premiere with me.”

Chelsea frowned at him while a laugh came out of Jasper.

Then another laugh.

Finally, the little rat started cackling, head tipped back and arm across his stomach.

“You expect me to believe that you, you, have tickets to the hottest premiere at TIFF? The event of the year?”

Adam nodded, while Chelsea cringed.

“They don’t even sell these tickets. It’s invite only. Not that someone like you could afford it anyway,” he said.

Adam’s smile grew.

“Enough, Jasper,” Chelsea said. “You’re making an ass of yourself. I’m not going with you. Even if I wasn’t busy, it would still be a no.”

Yes!

Chelsea stood up and started walking across the porch toward the stairs. “Go home,” she said.

He wasn’t sure whether she was only talking to Jasper or whether she was addressing him, too.

Jasper huffed, then turned and walked off. Adam hopped up and jogged to catch up with Chelsea, who was now marching to the end of the driveway to meet the bus. It wasn’t lost on him that Jasper wasn’t even going to stay to see Ben.

That guy was such a fucking douche.

“Chelsea, wait!”

Chelsea slowed but kept walking. “What now?”

“What time should I pick you up? For the premiere. Do you know what time it starts?”

Chelsea came to an abrupt stop, turning toward him. “Wait, were you serious?”

Adam nodded. “Of course.”

Her brows rose over her pretty eyes. “You can get tickets?”

Adam smirked. “I can get almost anything.”

Now he felt like an overly cocky douche, but at least he had the clout to back it up.

“I thought you were just helping me get rid of Jasper.”

Adam nodded. “I was. But you seem like you’d really like to go, and I offered, so I’d like to take you.”

She stared at him for a while, seemingly unsure how to respond, and he threw up a silent prayer that she would say yes.

“Why?” she asked.
