“You want me to leave you,” Naomi said. Her nose scrunched.“While you face off with a gang.”

“Yep, that’s the plan.”He sure as hell would have liked to kiss her once more, but?—

She rose onto her tiptoes. The hand holding the keys looped around his neck and hauled him toward her.Their mouths met in a passionate crash.Lips parted.Tongues tasted.Lust flared. And?—

“For fuck’s sake!”Hunter’s disgruntled exclamation.“I’m good, but I can’t take out ten guys on my own.A little help, Eb, and a little less make-out time, got it?”

He got it.Eb backed away from Naomi.

Her breath heaved.“You’re not supposed to be a real hero.”

“I’m not.”He grabbed a second gun.“Wait until we have their attention.”

“Don’t youdareget shot.Or burned!”

He planned to do the shooting.“Just haul that sweet ass as far from here as you can get.”

Hunter cleared his throat.“There’s a dirt path that cuts from the garage in the back.Get the car out, keep the headlights off, and just drive out that way.If anyone tries to give chase, Eb and I will stop them.”

Henry circled Naomi’s feet.

Eb gave the golden a brief pat.“Keep her safe.”

The motorcycles roared louder outside, like the bikers were deliberately flaring the engines to send a message…probably because they were.

Come out, come out…

Eb spun on his heel and walked away from Naomi.Because he had to.Because she had to be protected.

“They have kicked the wrong hornet’s nest,” Hunter said.

“Damn straight, they have.”They weren’t going out the front door. What were they, idiots? They’d open the door and likely get shot.

Nah.A better plan was always at play. This was not amateur night. The gang was about to learn that very important fact.

“You weren’t supposed to be a real hero!”Naomi argued again.

He glanced back at her.Smiled.“I’m not, sweetheart.”The gang was about to learn that fact.“But I’m the best assassin you’ll ever meet.”

Shock flashed on her face.

ChapterSeventeen

Hunter and Eb had vanished.Drifted through the house like ghosts. She stood in the den, one hand gripping a gun and the other fisted around the keys Eb had given her.Henry sat on his haunches and stared up at her with his big, trusting eyes, waiting for a command.

She was supposed to run.Eb and Hunter were going to be the distraction. She’d sneak away.Take Eb’s precious Impala.

Meanwhile, Hunter and Eb would…what?

I’m the best assassin you’ll ever meet.

Her heart drummed far too hard and fast in her chest. The house had gone quiet around her.She didn’t even think Hunter and Eb wereinthe house any longer. They hadn’t gone out the front door, though, or the back.Had they snuck out a window? Was there another exterior door somewhere in this maze of a house?

They’d left without making a sound. All she could hear beyond the house was the snarl of the motorcycles as they circled in.

Yes, she was supposed to run.To wait for the distraction and save herself while Hunter and Eb faced the danger.

I’m the best assassin you’ll ever meet.
