“Suga pie is on the news,” Gams said and rushed over to grab the remote, turning the TV up with my sister addressing the public.
She wore a NYPD windbreaker, and her hair was pulled back into a ponytail with a Yankee hat on. “Goodness, she makes me prouder and prouder… my Suga pie.” Gams crossed her arms as we watched Capri on the news.
“Today, our office, in coordination with the federal and local agencies, completed a multi-agency raid on an illegal human egg harvesting operation. One that we have now confirmed to be a modern-day black market reproductive trafficking ring that is international. This facility was masked as a fertility clinic that served hundreds of patients daily. Many of the women that were abused were misled, coerced, and trafficked. Stripped of their autonomy and treated like animals… cattle.” She removed her aviator sunglasses and looked right at the camera.
“Fuck, she so damn sexy.” Blaze muttered as his eyes were glued on his wife.
“When I took this position, I said I wasn’t letting anything slide, and I don’t plan to. This was not medicine; this was exploitation in the most horrific way. You don’t come into my city and do what you want… I will find you and bring you to your knees. Detectives Parker and Hill were a big help in this investigation as well.”
Cappadonna clapped his hands, sending a loud echo through the room. “Pulling Lucia’s ass right into the middle of it. Baby Doll too fucking smart, she making sure they know they can’t trust her… giving her ass nobody to lean on.”
Blaze was too busy smiling while admiring his wife on the news. “Why that detective look familiar?”
“That’s Synthia’s sister…. She was NYPD and had taken the test to become a detective. Corleon went and gave her a promotion,” Anjo smiled at me.
I looked over at her, grinning at her best friend on the news. “You know about all of this?”
Pops chuckled. “She’s just as involved as Capri… between Capri and Blair, neither of them rested.”
“Your wife been out here in them same streets you wanna keep her out of,” Blaze snickered, as I looked at Anjo, who was avoiding looking at me.
“With my baby in your stomach, Anjo?” I raised my brow.
She folded her arms. “And did. I wasn’t going to sit around being helpless and a victim anymore. Someone tried to take you from me, and I stood up for once. I know you’re used to running everything; however, we are going to listen to your doctors and rest. You cannot lead when your body is weak and hasn’t healed.”
I went to say something else, and her ass balled my lips up gently and kissed me on the cheek. “Your queen has spoken,” my mother said, smiling at Anjo.
Blair
“We’re not comingto live with you and Meer. You both deserve to enjoy your new home without me and his brother coming to live with you guys.” I tried to convince Capri while she was in the bathroom.
She quickly rushed out the bathroom wearing a black dress that hugged all of her curves. With one heel on, and the other off, she balanced on that one heel and looked into the small mirror. “Ugh, is this doing too much? Should I stick to pants? Zoya, you need a new mirror.”
“I’ll add that to the never-ending list of things that I need to do,” she switched into the room, tossing herself across the chaise in the corner.
“Well, I’m gonna say what we all are thinking… why in the world would you move to Red Hook, knowing that sick ass fuck is running around here killing black women.”
“Not black women… women. He doesn’t seem to have a type on who he kills, because the victims are all different races and body types.” Capri tried on another heel as she rambled on, while using the mirror the best she could.
“He killed Berkeley,” I whispered.
Even though I hadn’t been the biggest fan of the girl, my heart was shattered that she lost her life. I never wanted her to die, and she never deserved to die. The woman was risking her life to find another woman, and she ended up losing her own.
Life wasn’t fair, and Berkeley had been on my mind. The sad part was that I didn’t get the chance to tell Quasim about her. I didn’t want to bring up anything negative because it was a lot. He was becoming stronger every day, and he wasn’t sleeping as much as he was when he first woke up.
As much as he was itching to get back out there and handle business, his body needed to heal. Quasim was so used to being the savior that he didn’t realize when he needed to be saved. Our family was determined to have him resting and getting away.
Dr. Ramos wanted to wait before he gave us the greenlight before he approved him to fly. I wanted to attend Berkeley’s funeral and pay my respects for our family. Because it was such covered news, Capri couldn’t attend or else it would have looked like she was involved with the Brooklyn Bullies.
The only reason she was able to attend Ellis’s funeral was because it was private to mostly their family and the Gods. There wasn’t any media coverage like there would be at Berkley’s funeral.
“You have no idea how much I want to find out who this person is… whoever it is, they are smart and one step ahead.”
“Which means you need to be careful with this, Capri.”
Me and Capri both snapped our necks in her direction. “Says the one who moves into the scene of the crime… what was wrong with your other place?”
“Aside from the fact that I found a mouse, and my neighbors were running a damn puppy mill from their backyard… As crazy as it seems… I really needed something new.”
