Jenner nodded. “Thanks. I was making an omelet.” He sat on a stool at the kitchen island with Immy on his lap.

“She’s really like this most mornings?” Tobias asked with what looked like concern on his face.

“Yeah. But not usually for this long. I think she’s actually gone back to sleep.” He rubbed his hand up and down her back. “She’s not a morning person.”

“No kidding.”

“Are you sure you’re up to the job of watching her, because we could switch you and Sampson around.” He’d prefer that. “Taking care of her isn’t really in your job description.”

“My job description is pretty open.” Tobias finished beating the eggs.

“Guess that’s true. But I’m guessing this is different than you thought it would be.”

Tobias just shrugged his wide shoulders. Jenner had to admit that the other man had fit easily into their household. He didn’t make waves. He was always calm and collected.

There was no reason for Jenner to dislike him.

Other than the fact that he’d seen the way Immy stared at him.

Immy stirred in his lap as Tobias plated up the omelet.

“Jenner?” she whispered.

“Hey, Twinkles. It’s good that you’re awake. Breakfast is ready.”

“Who made me breakfast?” she asked in a croaky-sounding voice. “You?”

“No, baby. You were clinging to me,” Jenner told her. “Tobias did.”

“Tobias can cook?” she asked, moving around on his lap so she had her back to his front.

She grabbed his arms and dragged them around her. Still in demanding mode, then. He gave her what she wanted and hugged her tight.

“Yep,” Tobias told her. “My ma taught me.”

“It smells good,” Immy said. “Omelet? I love omelets.”

“You best try it before it gets cold, see if it tastes good.”

Immy nodded but didn’t reach for a fork or do anything but stare down at her plate.

“Want some help?” he whispered in her ear.

She leaned her head back against his chest. “Not hungry.”

“You have to eat something.” He forked some up and then held it to her mouth.

Thankfully, she took the bite. Then another. All while she stared at Tobias who was cleaning everything up.

“Do you want me to get her medication?” Tobias asked.

Jenner wondered what the other man thought of him feeding Immy. Did he need to warn him not to tell anyone outside of this house? No. Alejandro wouldn’t have sent someone that wasn’t trustworthy. And it wouldn’t be worth this guy’s life to spread rumors about them. Even rumors that were true.

So Jenner figured he could be trusted to keep his mouth shut about Immy’s health and . . . needs.

“Thanks, yeah,” he said. “She has a pill dispenser in the cabinet behind you.

“Good omelet?” Tobias asked, placing the pill dispenser in front of them.
