My stomach clenched, and I drew my thumb along her bottom lip, blood already flowing to my dick despite the night’s activities. “After hours... we play.”
She lifted her purse to her shoulder, making my hands fall, and a sunrise smile spread on her lips. “I’d like that, Gage.”
I loved the sound of my name on her lips, no matter the context. I could feel myself wanting to talk to her, make this conversation last by asking about Levi, if his dad would show or not. And that was when I knew I needed to distance myself and compartmentalize my life like I’d grown accustomed to doing.
So I simply nodded and said, “I'll see you next time.”
“I’ll see you next time.” She lifted her fingers in a little wave and walked out of the room, her hips mocking me as they swayed back and forth.
I was already looking forward to ‘next time’ way too much.

As I walked out of the hotel in the morning, I realized Cliff stood guard by the hotel entrance.
Our eyes connected, and as he looked at me, and then to the parking lot where my van and Gage’s Tesla were parked, understanding dawned.
My cheeks were hot, and all I could think to say wasI didn’t know you worked Saturdays.
“Filling in for the weekend crew,” he said gruffly. This was just as awkward for him as it was for me.
“Oh, well, um... I’ll see you Monday.”
He nodded, looking down.
What he must have thought of me. I was so not prepared to be doing the walk of shame today, at my age, at my place of work.
All I wanted to do now was get into my minivan and drive away as I called Mia to tell her everything that had happened.
But then the NDA came to mind, and I realized I couldn’t. The biggest, riskiest, most exciting and dangerous thing that I'd ever done, and I couldn’t tell a single soul. In some ways, it made hooking up with Gage more exciting, like this little tryst between us was something only we shared. But also, it would be nice to tell Mia and maybe even my mom so they would stop encouraging me to get back out there.
Left to process the experience on my own, every detail played over again in my mind while I drove back to my house. How had my evening gone from taking a simple bath to an entire night of mind-blowingly hot sex with my billionaire boss?
I'd learned so much in the last twelve hours. Like his confidence was definitely merited. That he was a very generous lover but also that he had been attracted to me from the moment we met. A little bout of butterflies danced in my stomach.
Caleb had been wrong about no man wanting me. In my first interview with Gage, I had shared everything about me that Caleb thought other men would be repulsed by. My curves had been on full display. My children called, and I yelled at them. Hell, I even joked awkwardly, and I’m pretty sure my hands had been sweaty.
But he still found me attractive.
So if someone like Gage Griffen, who could have his pick of any woman, found me physically attractive and wanted to hook up, then someone amazing could fall for the entire package and want to build a life with me. Someday. When I was ready to trust again.
For now, I’d enjoy hot, commitment-free sex like nothing I’d ever expected to have in my thirties.
After taking a quick shower and grabbing Levi’s gym bag for his game, I got back in the car and went to my parents’ house to pick everyone up.
The van had enough room that all the kids could ride in the back seat, and then Mom and Dad could sit up front and in the middle on the way to the game. As we drove, Andrew told me every single detail from a show that he had watched with my mom the night before. Cora complained that she had to wear a Golden Valley shirt over the top of her sequined dress.
And then Levi asked the question. “Is Dad coming today?”
I glanced in the rearview mirror, seeing my son's eyes looking back at me. He was trying to hide the hope there, but I could sense it.
“Have you called him?” I hedged. It wasn't fair that I always had to be the one to break the news. Even though we both knew it was really Caleb’s fault, I was there to handle all the emotions Levi didn’t want to admit.
Levi shook his head.
The silence coming from my parents was deafening, all of us screaming inside, why couldn’t Caleb be there for his kids?
