Her breath hitched in her chest, and before she could argue with me or utter another word, I lowered myself. Kneeling at her throne and bringing her to my lips.

In minutes, I had her screaming my name.

Farrah

Even though it had been two days since our morning tryst in the office, I still could hardly be around Mia without blushing. She knew me better than anyone else, and she knew Gage just as well.

Which was unfortunate, because I was terrible at lying and Gage had a last-minute lunch meeting come up with Jason Romero when we were supposed to meet Pascale to go over the shot list. Mia was the only person Gage trusted enough to decide what he would and wouldn’t do in a shoot. Which made me a little jealous, but I needed to focus on my job. The shoot was under a month away, and Pascale said he needed our feedback before securing additional props and wardrobe.

Gage might be able to play it cool in front of Mia, but me? Not a chance. I wore all my emotions like a brightly colored hat, whether I wanted to or not.

A knock sounded on the open door to the conference room Gage and I had been using and Mia came in, giving me a big hug. “I know we technically work together, but I still feel like I never see you,” she said.

“I know,” I replied. “I was so excited to work with you, but I feel like I spend more time with Gage than anyone else.” I instantly fought a smile, because I didn’t mind the time I spent with him so much anymore.

“Now you know what it feels like to be me,” she said.

God, I hope not.I chuckled awkwardly. But then I had to wonder... Had he made her sign an NDA too? No, I decided. I knew Mia too well for her to be able to lie to me. When I'd asked her directly about a potential crush on Gage, she had been genuinely against the idea.

If she asked me outright, I'd have no choice but to fold. She’d know instantly.

“How's work been going?” I asked, hoping to change the subject. “I just realized that I don't really know a lot of what you do every day.”

She laughed. “Pretty much anything Gage asks me to do, I guess. Like I had to schedule a last-minute dinner, make reservations for him and Jasondoll faceRomero. I made travel plans for him last spring when he had to speak at a congressional hearing on real estate monopolization. I’m working with the event planner to prepare for the annual Fourth of July picnic for the company. Lately, I’ve been taking on a little more—helping him prepare reports for C-suite meetings and learning more of his role.”

My eyebrows lifted. “My god, Mia, that sounds like three jobs instead of one.”

“It is.” She laughed. “I pretty much handle everything, from having his car buffed out after someone door-dings it”—she winked at me—"to making his doctor appointments. You know he has someone come to his apartment for that?”

“You’re kidding. That's something that rich people do? That sounds amazing.” I shuddered. “Last time Cora got an ear infection, I had to sit at urgent care for three hours.”

Mia nodded. “You can have anything, if you're willing to pay the price.”

I chuckled. “I’d have to be doing a lot more than interior design to afford that. Maybe I should be a stripper? There are people into the whole mom, stretch mark thing, right?”

The words were out of my mouth before I realizedour bosswas into that. I blushed, hard, then choked on my own salvia, going into a major coughing fit.

Mia said, “You’re so off. I haven’t seen you blushing like this since you started dating Caleb... Maybe when we went to that Magic Mike movie. You talked about Channing Tatum forweeksafter.” Her jaw dropped, and her eyes lit with excitement. “Oh my gosh! You have a crush!”

My cheeks flamed bright red. “I do not.”

“Who is it?” Mia asked excitedly. “How did you even meet him? Did you try online dating finall—”

The sound of voices came through the open door. Another knock sounded, and I looked away from Mia to see Cliff standing next to Pascale. “Have a good day,” Cliff said to Pascale, then left the three of us alone.

Mia immediately kicked me under the table, and my cheeks got even hotter. “Pascale?” she crooned. “I’m Mia, Mr. Griffin’s assistant. Farrah has told meallabout you.”

I didn’t think I could get more embarrassed, but I was blushing even harder than before, and a spark of a grin hid in Pascale’s dark eyes as he looked between Mia and me. “I’m flattered.”

“Pascale, it’s great to see you,” I said, extending my sweaty hand.

“Likewise.” He held on to my hand a second longer than necessary, and I could feel Mia’s silent squeal rightly along with the squish of moisture between our palms.

This wasnotthe message I wanted to send her. Although, it would be nice to distract her from Gage and me.

I gestured at an open chair for Pascale, across the table from Mia and me, and sat down.
