She laughed. “Don’t be silly.”

I studied Liv, who was smiling in a slightly less ornery way. “You pee in them? Fletch told me you’re using the bathroom all the time lately.”

Her jaw dropped open. “He told you that?”

“I think when you were on a bathroom break.”

She sent me a glare. “Just have a cupcake with your baby sister and your niece, will you? I had a craving and I can’t eat this whole box, but I don’t have enough to share with the entire team.”

“I mean, twist my arm,” I said, reaching for one of the vanilla cupcakes with white frosting and pink and blue sprinkles. I was midway into a bite when I realized they were watching me.

“What?” I asked, giving the cupcake a second look. What the hell had they put into this thing? But all I saw was white cake with a strip of pink down the middle. “Why’s it pink?”

Maya and Liv shared a look.

I drew my eyebrows together. “Are you laughing at me for eating a pink cake? Because you know men can like pink too. It’s just a color.”

Liv laughed.

Maya laughed harder.

I stared at the two of them. “Keep laughing this hard and the baby will fall out before it’s due.” Then it hit me.Baby.Pink.

“Holy shit!” I yelled. “You’re having a girl?”

She nodded happily, and Maya jumped up, yelling, “I’M GOING TO HAVE A BABY SISTER!”

I picked up my niece, spinning her around and grinning at the great news. “Congratulations!” I set Maya down and hugged my sister close. Fletcher had confided in me that she’d struggled with endometriosis and they didn’t know if they’d be able to have a child at all. Knowing they’d have a little girl made it that much more real.

“Rhett, are you crying?” Liv asked.

“No. I just have something in my eye, like a sprinkle from the damn cupcake.”

She and Maya laughed.

“Have you told Fletcher?” I asked.

Liv gave me a look. “You think I’d tell you before my husband? No, Maya and I tried to decide which gender reveal we liked best, so we’ve done all of them. We did smoke bombs with Mom and Dad, a balloon pop at Grampy Madigan’s, a confetti bomb for Fletcher—that’s all over the doctor’s office now. We did pink rose petals in an umbrella at Tyler and Hen’s place. We drove all the way to Dallas and did scratch-off tickets with Gage and Farrah’s family. And you get cupcakes.”

I finished eating the cake. “I hate to tell you this, but I think I got the best one.”

Mags drove up in her cute little car, and Maya said, “Can I bring her a cupcake?”

“Sure, babe,” Liv said, and Maya hopped off, running toward Mags.

I rubbed my sister’s back and said, “I really am happy for you. And it’s sweet that you included Maya in it all.”

Liv’s smile was a bit tearful. “I don’t ever want her to feel like we’re replacing her.”

I shook my head at her, watching alongside her as Maya pulled the stunt on Maggie too. “That little girl knows she’s loved. That’s why she’s such a shit.”

Liv laughed. “You’re going to be a great uncle, again.”

“It’s my honor and my duty,” I teased, then I bent down, speaking to the belly. “But you’re kidding yourself if you think I’m coaching your softball team. You’re shit out of luck.”

“Rhett!” She covered her belly. “You know they can hear you in there! She’ll come out with a potty mouth!”

“Literally, you know some babies eat their own poop on the way out?”
