Dear Mia,

I know it was all for show, and it lasted all of a second, but getting to kiss you on New Year's was already the best part of my year.

I hadn't realized just how much I missed kissing you, holding you, until the moment was over. You looked at me, and I swear there was something in your eyes. Something you weren't saying.

If you have anything to say to me, say it. Don't hold back with me.

Love,

Ford

JANUARY

Dear Mia,

We made it to the Super Bowl! I get two tickets. One is for Dad, and one is yours, if you’d like it. I’ll send it to Vanover.

Love,

Ford

Dear Mia,

I’ve made a lot of progress in therapy, but right now, I'm struggling.

It's the 20th anniversary of my mom's passing.

Twenty years without her.

Something about this anniversary just feels different.

I'm sorry I had to miss your event, but I'm leaving for Cottonwood Falls. My brothers and dad and I are holding a special ceremony, just family, at my mom's gravesite to remember her.

It will be hard. But I'm showing up for the hard stuff. No excuses this year.

If you're a praying person, I could really use a prayer right now.

Love,

Ford

The next day,I got my first letter back from Mia.

It said,

I’m praying for you.

Love, Mia

The biggest arrangement of flowers at the ceremony was from her. I wasn’t sure how, but they were fresh sunflowers and lavender.

And after the ceremony was over, my sister-in-law, Liv, passed me a note.

I’m in Liv and Fletcher’s guest house if you need me.
