“No,” Leo bites out.
“Actually,” I hedge, giving the caveman a look. “I don’t keep anything from these guys. We’re…um…”
“We love to share,” Oliver announces.
Alaric leans forward. “I don’t know if love is the right word.”
“We share…everything,” Leo affirms, lifting his brows as if daring Devon to say anything about it.
Devon peers around the room, confused. “It’s okay. You can tell me whatever it is you want to say in front of these guys. Despite what you’ve heard about jackass over there, he’s actually not all that bad.”
The smile Leo gives is more menacing than real, but I’ll take it.
“As long as you’re sure.” I give him a smile and then lead him over to the couch so he can sit. When he’s settled, he says, “I saw Keegan. I know you’re looking for him, so I wanted to tell you that I saw him and that I told him you’re looking for him.”
Leo doesn’t waste any time. “Where is he?”
“He was at my place but he left. I don’t know if he plans on seeing you, but I told him you needed to talk to him. I think he’s scared.”
“He better be,” Leo growls.
“Not about that. About…” He sighs. “Since your dad is dead…” Devon cringes like he hated having to say those words. “He might have been the only person to stop you and him from getting married.”
Alarm bells go off in my head. That had definitely been something that never crossed my mind. Fuck.
“Jesus.” Oliver mutters, as if the reminder of that scenario is too much for him to take. “Everyone wants to marry her.” He walks to the end table that has a crystal decanter on it. Instead of pouring himself a glass, he drinks the amber liquid straight from the spout.
“Everyone?”
I wave the question off. “I’ll talk to my mom.”
My head begins to throb. There are much bigger problems now with Dad’s death. He had safeguards in place if such a thing happened, but we have to worry about the businesses now. Without a male Knight at the helm, we might be under attack. The guys currently running the companies might fold.
“No, I’ll talk to your mom,” Oliver says. “She always wanted me as a son.” He tips the decanter toward me and then drinks another healthy mouthful from the spout.
If only my mother could see him now…
Fuck that. The royalty aspect would win out. Oliver could transform into a barking dog and she would still want me to marry him.
“His dad’s been looking for him, too. He’s trying to stay hidden, but Leon has almost all of his attention on finding Keegan. I don’t think he’s going to let this go anytime soon.”
“Thanks for telling me, Devon.” I give him a small smile. “If you see him again, tell him we can meet in secret. I just need a time and a place, and I’ll get there.”
He stands from the chair. “I will. Though I don’t know if he’ll come around again. He was pretty spooked.”
He gives me another hug, and I start walking with him toward the door. When we’re almost out of the main room, I turn to him. “Hey, weird question. Do you happen to know if Delilah had sex with Keegan before she died?”
Stopping in his tracks, the whole world pauses for a moment before he asks, “I’m sorry, what?”
“My sister and Keegan? You said they were in love. Did they, you know, have sex?” I whisper like I’m a prepubescent teen who thinks sex talk is off-limits.
“I don’t know. Keegan didn’t tell me shit like that.”
I give him a look. “You sure? Because that sounds like the exact kind of thing Keegan would’ve boasted about.”
“Yeah, but it wasn’t like that for him at the end. I’m telling you. The Keegan who told everyone she was a virgin would’ve told the whole campus if he fucked her, but—”
“Wait—what?”
