“It’s called a string, but it’s more like fishing wire. Most men don’t feel it, but, well, you’re not built like most men.”

“Are you telling me I have a big dick?”

“Have I not already? Shit, Sam, I thought you were going to split me in two the first night we were together. Oh, and I also realized that I never explained to you that because of the IUD, I won’t get a period. I also likely won’t get one while breastfeeding. The combination of the two makes a pretty ironclad method of birth control.”

“I didn’t doubt you when you told me before.”

“I didn’t think you did, but I realized at some point you’d notice that I never had a period and question that.”

“Do you want more kids, Kelsey?”

“Definitely. I’m not sure when, but yes.”

“If you could plan it now, when would it be?”

“I would want Crew to be close to his siblings; my sisters and I were born about two years apart. I was close with Kylie, but Kendra was four years older. I think that age difference makes it more difficult to be close with her.”

“You could just be different people.” Kelsey loved her oldest sister, but the strain between them seemed more than age-related.

“What about you, Sam?”

“I want you to be able to finish school and have time to get your career rolling. But I also loved being close in age to Josie.” Selfishly, I’d have babies with her immediately if it were my decision.

Kelsey was quiet for a bit, then asked, “And you see this future with me?”

“Yeah, Kels. It’s with you. I thought I’d been clear about that, but you’re the only reason I see this future. Are we on the same page here?”

“Yeah, Sam. We’re on the same page,” she said before she kissed me and headed into the bathroom to get ready for bed.

“My turn to get Crew when he wakes,” I said.

“Oh, man. You keep me happy and well-rested, and I’ll keep you happy.”

CHAPTER 69

Kelsey

The highlight of the two-and-a-half-hour trip between Austin and Houston had to be the stop we made at Buc-ee’s. We all left with t-shirts with Buc-ee, the beaver, and I stocked up on snacks for the road trip. Of course, Sam’s snacks were limited to protein bars, but I found at least a couple of new favorites.

“Are you buying your mother a candle that smells like a beaver’s nuts?” Sam asked.

When I held it up for him to smell, he nodded and said, “Ok, I’ll give you that; it smells pretty good.”

“This place is like a fever dream.”

“Could you imagine if they put one of these on the Mass Pike?”

“Yeah, it would quickly become one of the most popular gas stations in the region.”

Crew complained a bit when I strapped him back into the car seat. “Don’t worry, buddy, we’re almost there,” I reassured him.

“He’s so good with traveling, but once we get to their house, we can let him stretch out.”

“What time is your interview?”

“I scheduled them to come out to the house at five. They plan to air it just before tomorrow night’s game.”

“Is there room in the house? And a place to have the interview?
