Sage wasn't impressed with her new nickname, but she was excited to have the opportunity to see a bit more of the world. Travel was something her family hadn't done, and she had accepted the likelihood that she would only ever travel through the eyes of the authors in the books she read.

Sage had just stepped out of the Apothecary, her basket filled with the supplies she needed before leaving with the Charming Four. She was regretting not grabbing her cloak. There was just enough nip in the early morning air to raise goosebumps when the wind blew by.

Her steps quickened as she hurried through the nearly empty streets. There was only one last stop she wanted to make before they left. Her nose guided her. The smell of freshly baked bread called to her.

Sage entered a small mom-and-pop bakery. The little bell jangled as Sage stepped inside, announcing her presence. The cozy shop was just large enough for a few tables scattered around the room. Its wood-paned windows were inviting and the sign over the door promised the best pastries in town.

The little shop was filled with the aromas of warm sweet buns, savory pies, and freshly churned butter. The shelves were lined with dozens of different kinds of breads - white, wheat, rye, oat, and more - as well as baskets of fragrant fruits. It was like stepping into a bakery straight out of a fairytale. There was even a glass case with delicate cakes in all shapes and sizes that looked too perfect to eat.

The baker behind it was busy kneading dough, talking to herself as she worked. Their flour dusted jet black hair was pulled into a tight bun on top of their head, tied with a bright yellow ribbon that matched her apron. Sage couldn't help but smile at the sight. The woman looked up from her work and smiled back when she noticed her standing there, eyes darting among all the treats on display.

"Sage!"

This was the baker's daughter who had taken over the bakery several years ago. Sage had been thrilled when they had been able to start getting their bread from here again.

She smiled widely and waved.

"Good morning, Sarina," Sage said. "It's been a while since I've seen you."

"Yes, it has. How have you been? I heard your mother's latest book is out."

"It is," Sage said with a nod. "I think it's going to be a hit. How are things at the bakery?"

"Oh, they're going well. Business has been good. Really good, actually," Sarina said. "I'm glad you stopped by. What can I get you?"

"Do you have any potato bread ready?"

"I do! Fresh out of the oven. How many?"

Sage placed her basket on the counter. "Fill me up. I thought I'd pick some up for the rest of my companions. We've been traveling for a while and I thought it would be nice to share some bread with them."

Sarina nodded in understanding. "That's a nice gesture. I'm sure they will appreciate it."

Sage couldn't help but ask, "Is there anything new you've baked that I could try? I'm feeling a little adventurous today."

Sarina's eyes lit up with excitement. "Actually, I've been working on a new recipe. It's for a cherry and almond pastry. It's still experimental, but I'd love it if you could try it and let me know what you think."

Sage's mouth watered at the thought of it. "I would love to try it."

Sarina quickly disappeared into the back of the bakery and returned with a small plate. She placed it in front of Sage and watched as she took a bite. Sage closed her eyes to savor the flavors. The sweetness of the cherries and the nuttiness of the almonds were a perfect combination.

"This is amazing, Sarina. You should definitely add it to your menu."

Sarina smiled. "Thank you, Sage. I'm glad you like it."

Sage admired the baked goods as Sarina began to pull the loaves of bread, taking in all the delicious smells around her. She had always loved the peaceful atmosphere of the bakery and the comforting smells that came with it. It reminded her of home, of a simpler time when she had no worries or responsibilities.

Her thoughts were interrupted as the door to the bakery swung open, causing the little bell to chime once again. Sage turned to see who had entered and her heart skipped a beat when she saw him. It was the last person she had expected to see there.

"Prince Finn!"

Prince Finn looked at Sage with a curious expression on his face. "Are you almost finished here? Everyone is waiting on us."

Sage was taken aback by his sudden appearance. She had assumed he was preparing his own things for their journey. How did he know where to find her? "Ah-um...y-yes," she stammered as she grabbed her basket of bread off the counter. "I just wanted to pick up some bread."

Prince Finn nodded and gestured for her to lead the way. Ignoring the look of surprise on Sarina's face, Sage waved goodbye and made her way to the exit.
