Rose smirks. “I was only checking for your safety. Make sure there were no traps or hate mail delivered. Orders from the highest.”

I want to tease her or tell her off, but knowing Fairy Godmother, I know there’s a good chance that she really did tell Rose to check things out for me.

“I hate to ask, but Rose, I need your help.”

Brow raised she puts her feet on the ground. “What do you need?”

“Mother nature calls and as you can see, I can’t exactly move around well enough to take care of it myself.”

“Nope! I’m out. That’s not part of my job description. Wait there and I will get you help.”

The scraping of her chair makes my head throb as Rose gets up and leaves the room. Soon after, a man in robes enters. His silver hair pulled up high on his head, worried creases on his forehead.

“You needed me my lady?” he says.

“I need to relieve myself. Please.”

“Of course! One moment please.”

I watch and wait. Assuming he will grab a chamber pot or come over to help me move. Instead, in my frustration, I find him to be standing the same spot mumbling to himself. I can’t hold this much longer. With a grunt I begin to prop myself up on my elbow and shift when pain hits me everywhere I just put pressure. With a cry I collapse back down.

“Are you going to help me?” I grown at the man.

He only holds up a single finger in my direction, still mumbling to himself.

A tingle in my stomach begins as a warmth moves from under my bust on down. To my surprise I no longer have any feeling to need to use the chamber pot after the feeling disappears.

“What did you do?”

The man approaches me and looks me over. “Magic my child. You are a lucky one. The king himself has put me over your healing and comfort. Now, how are you feeling?”

“Like I was stabbed all over.”

He snorts. “A bit literal aren’t we?”

“How long have I been out?”

“Half a day. I thought you would sleep longer. I can bring you a draught to help you sleep until you heal fully. With the spells working on you currently it should be less than a day.”

“You’re serious? How could I possibly be healed that quickly?”

He only gives me a look as if asking if I was serious.

Remembering that he had just magicked my own pee out of myself I guess I shouldn’t disbelieve his abilities so quickly. Momentarily the man leaves and returns with a goblet and a golden box. He places the box and cup on the table beside my cot.

“Let me help you up for a moment. Make sure to drink all of this. It will work within a few minutes.”

I allow him to help me sit up enough to drink the concoction, fully ready to disappear into the silent bliss once again as more wounds I didn’t know of screamed from the effort of moving. After helping me lay back down he takes the cup away and as he exits the room Rose reappears.

“Oooh a new pretty? That wasn’t in the pile.”

I turn my head to look at the box. Something about it seems familiar, but I can’t put my finger on it.

“Can you give me that? I just want to look at it,” I ask.

Rose pulls a chair beside the cot and sits down. Her eyes widen a bit as she lifts the small box and hands it to me. Immediately Idrop it from the weight directly onto my stomach. Tears well at the edges of my eyes from the pain. What is this made of?!

I dig the nail of my thumb, one of the only parts of my body not currently wrapped up fully, into the box and to my surprise it dug in. This is actually gold?
