Sorrel folded his arms across his chest and gave him his side, but he couldn’t stop his lips from curling. Especially when Cypress’ bottom lip had fallen slightly, unable to believe that Sorrel had mocked his lack of skills with the so-called ‘gaming consol.’

“Thank you for bringing me here,” Sorrel said, his features softening as he leaned his backside against the side of the electronic device. “I’m having such a good time. I’ve never experienced anything like this.”

“We’re not done yet. I saw you liked to dance!” A surprised gasp choked out when Cypress grabbed his hand, interlocking their fingers before yanking Sorrel to his feet. “And now I have to prove myself.”

“Wait, no, I can’t dance in front of all these people!” No matter that they were mostly part animal.

He also couldn’t believe Cypress had watched him do so for Greta. Yet, he wasn’t given the chance to let embarrassment take hold.

Cypress chuckled as he dragged Sorrel from the lunchbox. With Sorrel’s hand clasped tightly in his, Cypress ushered him into the hollow tree base at the centre of the town where the loudest music came from.

Sorrel’s apprehension disappeared the moment Cypress took his other hand. The fairy walked backwards while pulling forward and then started dancing with Sorrel’s stiff body.

His heart soared.I’m dancing with another person. He stole the lead, making the man’s brow rise. Sorrel didn’t care how Cypress felt about it, and he tilted his head back, laughter ringing from him.

This was the best night of his life.

Sorrel held his dance partner’s side, feeling the firmness of his muscles, as well as the gentle warmth of the hand locked with his, and he spun them. The music was festive, filling him with an energy so strong it would surely burst from his skin.

Bodies had to make way for them as they began a cheerful, complicated dance, one that required a fair amount of pushing off from each other and space. Even though they’d never done this together before, they were nearly in perfect rhythm.

Together they stole the limelight.

“And here I was thinking you wouldn’t know how to properly dance once you had a partner,” Cypress mocked, shaking his head as he brought Sorrel in to try and take back the lead.

Sprites were watching, clapping their hands with their increasing rhythm. Sorrel tried to ignore them, immersing himself solely in Cypress.

His gaze swept over the spellbinding man in front of him. The rich reddish colour of his eyes, the dark colour of his orange and brown hair, the tan of his skin and the freckles that dotted it.

Cypress reminded him of autumn. Warm, but vibrant, with a personality that was cool.

“I’ve read instruction books.” Then his gaze found the enchanting man’s wings and millions of questions rang through his mind. “I’ve heard in stories that there are fairy courts. Is this true?”

“I’ll answer any questions you want to know. Yes, there are.”

“Is there a king and queen?”

Cypress spun him out with one of their hands interlocked, their feet skipping to the beat. “Yes.”

“A prince and princess?” Sorrel asked, delighted to learn of this.

Sorrel came back in swifter than Cypress expected. It gave him the opportunity to catch his partner off-guard and spin them both with Sorrel now in the lead position.

“Just a prince.”

Sorrel raised his arm and forced Cypress to twirl under it, making his eyes narrow. Sorrel flashed a cheeky expression in return as he asked, “Is he handsome?”

The side of Cypress’ mouth quirked. “As handsome as they come.”

Sorrel playfully tsked. “It’s too bad you’re not the prince.”

Cypress managed to wrangle Sorrel and dipped him back over his arm. The long tips of his onyx hair touched the ground as he tried to hold on so he didn’t fall.

Cypress held his gaze firmly as he replied, “Who said I’m not?”

“Pfft!” Sorrel laughed when Cypress brought him safely back up. “I can already tell you’re too impractical and irresponsible to be royalty.”

They both bounced back into the rhythm.
