CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

It’s after three in the morning before Caroline and I slide under her covers. We’d both been in desperate need of a shower after the events of the day, and since we decided to shower together, it had taken forever. I tell myself no harm will come from holding her, and I close my eyes and allow myself to imagine a future with this woman that I know will never become a reality.

“Well, good morning, Cowboy,”I hear as a warm hand rubs my arm. I roll over until I am eye to eye with Caroline before it hits me that it is daytime outside.
