His heart would actually be broken that Alan hated him when he worked under Alan. He’d made more than a few comments when we were alone that he wanted to drain the warlock to finally shut his mouth.

I sent a message to a couple of the department heads who were on board with the next move. They all wanted the board out and most had made their opinion on Tommy known, but therewere only a couple I truly trusted. At least to handle this well and not risk making a bigger mess.

Well, I wanted a bigger mess so the board was backed into a corner.

I didn’t want a bigger mess for me to clean up.

It worked, and by the end of the day, I had three requests to transfer from under Tommy because doctors under him were worried he was going to be fired.

Sorry, Tommy. You made your own bed on this and I warned you several times. You should have listened.

I threw gas on the fire the next day by giving Ms. Boyd’s niece two weeks’ leave. I made it clear toherthat it was for her to think about her career and professionalism. That Tommy was out of line, but even I knew she wanted a rich husband, and my hospital wasn’t a fucking hunting ground for wannabe trophy wives but professionals.

And her aunt was already on thin ice with the owner, so it was time to act like an adult instead of running to family to cover for her.

But to everyone else in the hospital, it would be spun as free time off to pay her off for what Tommy had done, making it clear the board was trying to clean up their mess… And drawing attention to the fact they’d made a mess.

The ultimate best part was Joel Warren was still banned from the hospital, so he couldn’t even try to storm into my office and start trouble. Yeah, I thanked the gods for the timing on that one.

Now I just had to handle the other list of issues and drama that were always piled on me. Especially after the disaster we’d helped.

Thinking of that, I sent a reminder to my counterpart in Asia letting them know how much time they had left before I blew upthe situation. I’d given them enough leeway. Now I wanted our damn property back.

I slept in for the first time since arriving in Atlanta a week and a half after the earthquake that ASH had helped with. I had finished shadowing Dr. Tai and wouldn’t move on to whoever was next until Monday, so I had the weekend free to get settled in and unpacked now that most of my condo was refinished and painted.

I sighed at the list of places that Mum had for me to go and pick out my furniture she’d already checked out… But I was spoiled and she was amazing.

So I did that for hours and was relieved how much I got done because of her. It wouldn’t be too big of a problem to bring more through a portal now that my parents had a warlock on staff, but I’d been honest with Mum that I hadn’t liked a lot of my furniture before. I’d basically gotten what Grandmum had told me to, and I didn’t want that anymore.

Mum being as patient as she was, she walked me through what I actually wanted. I wanted comfortable and not flashy. Not messy, but something I could nap on or easily doze on while reading over files. I needed that level of comfort in my home when my work environment was so stressful and rigid.

She definitely came through.

I picked up food on the way home, wanting to try a lot of the local everything since I hadn’t spent much time in America. I was going to like Atlanta for the damn barbeque meats alone.

No joke.

I was on the floor going through files and paperwork to put away in my study when the doorbell rang. It took me a moment to realize what it was because I hadn’t heard the noise before.

Then I was worried because only a few people even knew where I lived.

Nothingsurprised me more than to find Ellie Reed at my door, smelling of wine… And in that damn robe again.

“You blocked my fuck buddy from the fucking building?” she demanded, anger and something else in her eyes.

I mentally swore, having honestly forgotten about that and how petty I’d been after my argument with Dr. Fitz in the attending’s lounge. He’d said shit to me after about needing to teach me a lesson so I stayed out of his business. It had pissed me off because he talked to me like a pup in front of too many people and I couldn’t retaliate without saying too much.

And he’d known that.

So I’d reported to building security that he’d threatened me and I wanted him banned from the building. Yes, I was also blocking him from Ms. Reed.

She snorted when I didn’t say anything and brushed past me into my condo. “I just got my ass chewed out by him and you’ve got nothing to say. Perfect. Where’s your wine? I’m out, and apparently I can’t order any because he’d see me in the lobby to get it and probably throw a fit.”

She didn’t wait for me to answer, muttering that my mum absolutely would have made sure I was set. She was happy with whatever she found in the wine fridge I didn’t even know I had and of course Mum had stocked.
