“He can’t cover his tracks completely. There’s a cyber trail, but no one will look for it. Why would they? Our best bet is to trigger an alarm the next time he uses his city account for nefarious deeds,” he explains like that makes sense to me.

He glances up and laughs. “I’m basically going to set a virtual booby trap.”

“Now you’re talking my language.” I sit up and listen as he goes back to using technical terms and my eyes glaze over. It doesn’t matter if I understand. Shane says Peter’s boss and the authorities will get notified if he tries to access any information about me, Jayce, or Madyson.

Sweet revenge.

Chapter forty-one

Madyson

I’m lost in all the ways Peter could delay the construction of our new apartment since we have to file a permit with the city.

Jayce escorts the architect out, and we enter the gallery. Emmet steers me to a couch in the main seating area.

Jayce locks the door behind him and lowers the blinds in the front windows that I never use. He has to reposition some of the art to get them down all the way.

“What’s going on in your head? We don’t have to renovate upstairs.” He crouches in front of me, snuggled into Emmet’s side.

“Peter has all of your account numbers. Even if you changed the passwords, he can probably get your money.” He’ll drain all of Jayce’s accounts and take everything we have. He’s entitled to some of it in the divorce, but that won’t stop him from taking everything to spite us.

Jayce glances at Emmet. “Emmet said that a couple days ago, so I called our lawyer and we transferred the bulk of our money to new banks.” His fingers tangle in my hair, then settle on the nape of my neck. “Emmet also talked to Shane, who set up a few shell corporations to hide our accounts. I haven’t told our lawyer yet and I might not in case Peter hacks his information.”

Jayce holds out his other hand and their fingers thread together. “Tell her the rest.”

“I mean, it’s all Shane. The guy’s a genius.” He shrugs.

“But a genius you struck a deal with, getting him on our side.” He tugs Emmet’s hand so he can reach his lips.

“I don’t understand.”

Emmet takes a deep breath. “Mmkay, so Alec’s a mess. He was a mess before the meme and now he’s a zombie.” Poor Von’s heartbreak is viral and Alec blames himself.

It’s taken all my strength not to show up and help him fix it. Instead, I’ve been sending him jokes to cheer him up. He actually responded with a smirk emoji and I’ve never been so happy for a half-assed response in my life.

I’m not connecting the dots between Alec’s mental health and Jayce’s money.

“Cole’s worried about not only Alec but the shop because Alec’s work capability is zero. He walked out in the middle of a tattoo the other day. So in exchange for becoming the acting manager of Unframed Art and keeping tabs on Alec, Shane agreed to not only set up the shell corporations, he set up triggers or booby traps, as I like to call them, on your bank accounts, and Peter’s city IP address. If Peter accesses information from the bank, it will…honestly, I’m iffy on what happens, but it’s a felony and somehow the bank will know it’s Peter.

“And the same sort of thing for his city IP. If he tries to access information based on our names, business names, and addresses, bad things will happen to him.” His voice is full of laughter.

“Shane did this for free?” I clarify.

“Well, it took him a few hours and that would cost a shit ton of money if we had to pay him, but I’m paying in sweat equity and honestly, Alec is a lot right now. And Shane wants more time and less stress for Cole. Shane’s definitely getting the better end of the deal.”

“Bottom line, our money and assets are safe, and Peter will only hurt himself if he tries to fuck with us.” Jayce’s fingers tighten on my neck and my core clenches.

“Speaking of fucking, I think you promised me.” Emmet arches an eyebrow.

“I’m a man of my word.” Jayce stands and swiftly pulls his cashmere sweater and T-shirt over his head.

“Now that’s what I’m talking about!” Emmet kicks off his shoes and unzips his hoodie.

Emmet

“Tell me what you fantasized about when you thought about Miss Rose.” Jayce crowds me and reaches into my pants to squeeze my balls. It’s hard to concentrate on the question.

“I like this game.” Madyson strips with zero fucks to give about being naked in her gallery. If these two are game, I’m not holding back.
