“I’m not fucking worthy, Lovely, but I’m willing to try.”
She stares at me for so long that my ass starts to tighten. I can feel myself tensing up and I know that she’s going to turn me away. She has every right to. She’s probably in love with that loud mouth motherfucker Switch, he’s given her more time and care than I could ever hope to.
“I, um, I’m not sure that I’ll be able to, um,” she takes a deep breath and blows it out, “My husband was horrible, and I don’thave very good memories or reactions to touch, in, um, that way, so I’m not sure that I’ll be able to-”
I place a finger over her lips, silencing her. “I don’t give a shit if we never share anything more than the kiss we just shared. I’m willing to stand by your side, as long as you’re willing to stand by mine.”
A tentative smile grows on her face, tugging up her lips in the sweet smile I’ve come to love. “Maybe we could take it slow?”
“Oh, it’ll be slow. I’ve got a lot of work to make shit up to you.”
“Like dueling a six fingered man?” The little imp grins cheekily at me. Fuck, she really did love that film.
“Find me a six fingered man and I’ll kick his ass.”
Her giggle is music to my ears. “So, did you come here to eavesdrop about my greatest shame and then kiss me?” she asks. She’s trying to lighten the mood but I can still see the remnants of shadows in her eyes.
“Shit, no, actually I was on my way here to tell you and Mad Dog that we’ll be making a move on our guests this evening. I know that the Girl Gang are the reason they’re here in the first place so I had to let you all in on it.” She raises her brow at me. “OK, and you’d all find a way in even if we didn’t tell you.” she smirks and nods.
“I’m guessing Mama Debs is in charge of the nursery tonight then?”
“Yeah, Kaia is helping her. She’s new to the club and Judge doesn’t want her to see what we do to people who cross us.”
She nods, “That’s a good call. Don’t want to give her any ideas on how to hurt Judge just yet.” she laughs and then climbs off my knee.
I miss her closeness immediately, as she steps away from me. She pauses, spins back to look at me, then drops a kiss on mycheek and takes off like her ass is on fire. I don’t give a shit, I watch her ample rear jiggle as it runs away down the hall.
A loud bang at the door jolts me out of my ogling, pissing me off as I know that I’ll have to leave the bubble I’m in and deal with some shit. Letting out a sigh I stand, getting to the door in three strides and throwing it open before Niko has a chance to knock again.
“What’s up, Prospect?”
“Sorry Pres, Mad Dog said to give you two some privacy but this couldn’t wait,” Niko says, eyes darting.
“Well, spit it out.”
He shuffles from foot to foot, tips his head back and curses, “It’s probably best if you see what it is. And promise me, you won’t yell.”
“What the fuck is going on, Niko?”
He says nothing, instead turning on his heel and skipping down the steps, striding toward Pops’ ATV. I’ve got another three of the things being delivered. It’s a long walk to the office and sometimes the brothers are lazy as fuck. I blow out a breath, call out to Lovely that I have to leave. Her sweet voice drifts down the hall telling me she’ll see me later. Figuring that I won’t have a chance to steal another kiss, I follow Niko, gently shutting the door behind me.
“This better be important,” I grumble getting into the passenger seat.
It feels wrong, but Niko was already in the driver’s seat and hell, the kid knows the property like the back of his hand. We weave in and out of a few trees, and head for a corner that I’ve never been before. Actually, I haven’t been on half the land, spending my time between the farmhouse, Lovely’s cabin, and Pops’ office. I could care less about the rest of the property.
Niko slows to a crawl, squinting into the trees before stopping and shutting off the motor. He doesn’t say a word, instead assumes I’ll follow him. We walk to a hedge and my mouth drops when Niko knocks against it, a wooden sound filling the air.
“What the fuck?”
“Password!” Cove yells, although her usual volume is muffled slightly.
“Cove, it’s me, open up.”
“No can do without a password.”
“It’s me!”
“We don’t know who ‘me’ is. Password or no entrance!”
