"You, too." I look over at Sabrina. "You, as well. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
“I’ll try.” She smiles back at me, presses her lips together, and then winks. "Or maybe I'll do everything you would do." She grabs the door handle, waits for Erica to walk back out, and then slams it closed in my face. "Byeeee," she calls out from behind the door, and I hear her and Erica laughing as they make their way to the elevator for a night of fun. I smile as I stand there, glad that Sabrina and I have been able to have a civil conversation. Only, I wish I were able to see her without Erica here, so we could discuss our last conversation. The one that made her stop talking to me for a year. I head back to theliving room and take a seat on my couch. It's been a long week, and I just want to relax, but I can't help but wonder what the girls’ dates will be like tonight. I jump up off the couch and head towards the kitchen to grab something to eat to distract myself. The last thing I need to be doing is thinking about the girls and their exploits. They are grown women, and it is none of my business.
"This could be the last first date of my life,"Sabrina had sung out excitedly. I wonder if she could really be that naïve to think that some random man she'd spent a small amount of time messaging could actually be the one. She's a fool if she thinks that. As I stand here, pissed, I grab my phone and text Lydia. I do not feel like taking her on a date, after all.
After I sent a quick text, I search through the contents of my fridge. I soon realize that there's nothing I want to eat and debate ordering something to pick up, when I hear my phone ringing. I'm surprised to see that it's Miles.
"Hello?" I grab a glass and fill it with water. I'm debating between Thai food and pizza for dinner.
"What are you doing?"
"Chatting with you at the moment."
"I mean tonight, bro." He sounds annoyed, and I have a feeling his hot date didn't go as planned, though that shouldn't be a surprise for him because they normally don't.
"Why? Aren't you wining and dining the?—"
"I'm free tonight. Do you want to grab a drink?"
"I have plans," I tell him. I don't want to chat with him about random shit. I want to watch a movie and attempt to forget that Sabrina is on a date with someone. "I thought you had plans, as well."
"She canceled..." He sounds annoyed. "Who are your plans with? The lady getting the Tiffany's box?"
"No." I think for a few moments, and an idea comes to me. "I'm actually hungry right now." I look at my watch. "I could go for food and drinks, if you're up for it."
"Yeah, I could be persuaded."
"What do you mean, you could be persuaded? You're the one who called me."
"You know what I mean." He laughs, and I'm glad to hear that he's not going to be a grump for the evening. "Want to meet in twenty minutes?"
"Where?" I pause. "Actually, there's this new place that Erica told me about that sounds good. She was at my apartment with Sabrina tonight, by the way.”
“I know.” He chuckles. “Getting ready for their hot date.”
“Oh, yeah, I think she may have been going on a date tonight... Do you happen to know where it is?" My voice sounds tight, and I wonder if he's suspicious as to why I'm asking.
"Oh, yeah." Miles laughs. "It's some new communal dining place. Potter's Garden, I think. She'll kill us if we show up."
"So what?" I pause. "We're her big brothers, right? Let’s be real, what do two men want from two women on a Friday night?”
“So, I guess I know where we're having dinner." He chuckles. "You're going to cancel your date?"
"Already texted her," I say as I see Lydia's pissed-off text and selfie. She's standing there in a bra and panties, but it does nothing to me as I delete it. "Text me the details for the place tonight, and I will meet you there."
"Perfect." He pauses. "Should I tell Erica that we'll be there? Just in case she gets mad at us for showing up?"
"Miles, are you crazy? The Army never alerts the enemy when they are on their way." I chuckle. "The fun will be in us watching. In protecting them both."
"If you say so."
"I do. I'll meet you there. Let me change real quick." I hang up and lean back against the wall. Erica will kill me if she realizes Miles and I are gatecrashing her date, but I'm actually doing it to protect her and Sabrina. There is no good reason for this first date to be a double date, and I want to ensure that both women are okay and didn't fall for any smooth-talking swinger wannabes. I have a feeling these two men are only looking for one night and not forever, and I’m not going to allow my sister and her best friend to fall for any smooth-talking men and their lies.
Chapter Seven
Sabrina
The restaurant is busier than I’d thought it would be, and all of a sudden, I feel nervous. The excitement I felt in Wes’s apartment is waning, and I no longer believe that I’m about to meet the man of my dreams. Or rather, I’m not able to fake the pretend excitement and show I put on for Wes so that he didn't realize how pitiful I was, thinking he was the hottest man I'd ever seen. I could see his golden, tanned chest. Those muscles were right off the cover ofSports Illustrated.
