Page 15 of Prey for Me

Run, rabbit, run.

I can hearhimin my head, Leo, Raphael, and Nakoa’s deep voice overlapping until the sound is deafening. Maybe I’m hallucinating. Perhaps they’re closer than I think.

I do hear alphas, though they don’t smell like them. I remember Leo’s, which reminds me of the forest I’m running through. And Nakoa, he smelled like the most intoxicating cologne. Why didn’t I catch Raphael’s scent? No matter, I have to escape.

But first, I hide. I hold still behind palm ferns and overgrown brush, blending in with the forest, wrapped in a tight ball like I was in the cage. The thunderous footsteps of a pack on the hunt fly by. When the foreign grunts and groans become more distant, I get brave enough to stand, slowly picking my way through the forest back to the beach. At least I hope I am. Sweat drips down my forehead, causing my dress to cling to myclammy skin. I figure it’s whatever I’m possessed with. But this feeling… It feels familiar. And it simply can’t be.

Focus.I have to focus. I can’t just get to the shore, I have to find the raft. I could get on the raft and get away, if it didn’t wash away, or if Leo didn’t sabotage it. They keep talking about the South and North Shores. I’m in the South, according to them. Would the North be better for me? I can only hope, but I wonder if surviving so far has been lucky or unlucky. It’s certainly not skill keeping me alive, but every second I’m being hunted by primal predators, I wonder if I was better off dead in the crash as I follow the shallow stream to what I hope is the ocean.

Don’t think like that. Maybe those women they’re talking about survived the yacht fire. The omegas that won’t go to the red masked foxes. The betas. But then… if they find Faith, would she go to them? No. No! Focus, Grace. Fight, bitch, fight!

“Woah!” I scream, stumbling back, and as I try my best not to fly off a cliff! On better inspection, it’s a waterfall leading down to a large pool. But I doubt I’d survive the impact once I hit the water below if I slip.

“Wait… No way!” I say out loud, gasping as realization hits me all at once. This is the same area where I woke up!

There’s a hot spring not far off from the falls, and as I squint, I see something large and yellow shielded by palm leaves. The raft! There are packs around it. Supplies, maybe? So he hid it. Did Leo save it for me or his pack? Does it matter? It’s there, and I can’t reach it! I don’t know the way down. Was I drawn to this place unconsciously? The scent of Leo, maybe? Because it’severywhere,so thick it makes my head spin, distinct from the island, and oh so tempting. It’s the only thing I can think of to explain how I covered so much ground only to wind up back here.

“But how?” I ask myself, confused, how I went from barely being able to stand to crawling and running so far that I’m near the shoreline already.

I squeeze my hand, and they don’t ache. I remove some of the bandages, not just on my hands, but all over my body. To my surprise, I find that many of the cuts and scrapes have healed. Way too fast. What is wrong with this island? What is wrong with me?

“Haa!” I gasp, jerking, my ankle aching, as something falls from a cliff above me.

The alpha stretches out after landing on his feet, and he’s wearing a black fox mask. I grimace.

“Found you. To think you’d run back here. He thought it was a good hiding spot. And I guess it was. Took us a week to track you and Leo down.”

I have no doubt who this rugged voice belongs to. Of course, it’shim.I decide I’m not lucky. I’m cursed!

“You can run. You can hide. But make no mistake, little white rabbit…” he says, voice husky, as he removes his mask.

The alpha named Raphael groans, his sharp fangs and electric blue eyes captivating me. And I can no longer deny what this sick desire coursing through me is.

Lust.I’m lusting after the man who defiled me in front of his pack.

“You areours,” he shouts and I go rigid before I’m burning with rage.

“I’ll never be yours!”

“Never say never in the presence of an alpha,”

He lunges at me, palming my throat, lifting me onto the tips of my toes. He slowly peels my mask off. I sent a swift kick to his dick. He dogdes by tossing me. But the big bastard is just as quick as Leo, maybe even faster. He takes me to the ground before I can run away, spinning so his back hits the muddystone, and I’m on top of him. Then he turns, pressing my body down with his weight. I protect my neck, the only instinct still working in my heat-addled mind. His bite is brutal, and I worry he’s pierced skin and bone from the force.

“Stop it!” he spits out as he pulls away, shock and worry on his rugged face. “Shit, were you bitten? Fuck that was nasty. Stay still!”

He rebites the wound he’s made even worse, sucking harshly, I suppose to suck it out. He spits, snarls, and looks down at me with… Shock and worry! Raphael is worried about me? Like he didn’t just face fuck me in front of his pack and make me swallow his cum. I thought this twisted shitstain would love to break some bones, maybe watch me die. But obviously not.

“Noooo!” I hear Leo yell, and then Raphael goes flying, slugged in the chin.

“Dumbass, I was saving her,” he shouts as Leo gut punches him so hard Raphael doubles over.

“Don’t bullshit me! You were trying to claim her right now, not help!” Leo roars. Wish he had this fight in him back in the warehouse.

They fight, and I try to get up, but when I put my hand on the ground to push up, I scream in agony.

Damn it! He may have actually broken a bone. And I screwed up my ankle. Now I’m back to square one in every sense of the word.

“Stop it right now,” a new voice dripping with authority joins them.Nakoa.My pack leader, apparently. “I thought you had more self-control than this, Raphael. I said you could mark her, not break her. She is our fated–” Raphael interrupts, still deflecting Leo’s flurry of blows.
