STOP FUCKING WITH MY BRAIN
CAM
I'm startingto think coming tonight was a mistake. For the second time in a week, Imogen had run away from me.
I'm not interested in that happening a third time.
"You should join our team," Matt, one of Connell's rugby teammates, says, pulling my focus from where Imogen and Sebastian seem to be having a rather intense conversation.
Sebastian looks pissed, but so does she, so who knows what is going on? Although given I just told her that her boss had spoken to me about her, I'm sure she's giving him hell for it.
Someone clears their throat, and I tear my gaze away from the couple arguing on the other side of the room. Connell is smirking, and I roll my eyes before responding to Matt.
"Yeah, maybe. I can't really commit to regular games, though. Not in my line of work."
"What do you do?" he asks, accepting the drink that his wife hands him as she passes by.
"I'm a paramedic."
"Oh shit, really? That would be intense." He looks impressed.
I'm used to people reacting this way when they find out what I do for work, but it never ceases to make me feel weird.
"It can be." I shrug and take another swig of beer.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Sebastian get up and walk away, but not before he squeezes Imogen's shoulder and says something that has her frowning.
I'd love to understand what the hell is going on between them. He admitted they'd slept together, but is that still happening? I know that she's single, so it must just be a physical thing...
The idea of the two of them fucking should probably stop me from considering pursuing anything further with her, but instead, I’m just curious to understand the dynamic between them both. I get the feeling that the pair of them together would definitely be something to watch...
What the hell? Where did that thought come from?
Clearly, my little excursion to Dark Desires has warped my perception of reality.
Imogen stays in her seat, her foot tapping on the floor as she sits with her arms crossed. A moment later, she shoots out of her chair, and I watched, amused, as she stalks towards me.
"You need to stop fucking with my brain," she says, glaring at me.
Matt coughs, doing a piss-poor job of covering his laugh.
Connell just rolls his eyes. "Come on, let's leave Cam to be murdered without an audience." He jerks his head towards some of their other friends, and they abandon me to endure whatever it is Imogen has to say.
"I promise, I had no idea I was fucking with your brain." I lean my shoulder against the wall beside me and run my gaze over her. "My deepest condolences."
She growls, and I laugh. This entire exchange is beyond confusing, but it's clear that I've had the same effect on her she's had on me.
"Look. Sex for me is all about the physical. I don't handleemotions well. And when you were all intense and forcing me to look you in the eye... My body got all confused."
I study her for a moment, Annika's words coming back to me. "So, you caught feelings while we were having sex?"
She blushes, then glances over at her best friend, who is watching us while she grinds against some guy on the dance floor.
"I don't know what it was." She looks down, seemingly unable to look at me while admitting that sleeping with me had a profound effect on her.
I reach out and gently lift her chin, making her meet my gaze. "Would you just admit you're interested in me so we can stop dancing around the subject?"
