When I pullup out the front of Dark Desires on Saturday afternoon, a weird feeling of anticipation settles in my belly. I have no idea why, though.
I haven't been back to this place since the club night, but I feel like I know this place well after all my conversations with Imogen about her job. She's still hesitant to tell me too much, due to the high-profile clients they have, but she's told me enough about the people that work here that I feel like I know them already.
Connell lets me inside, and I raise an eyebrow.
"Are you ever not here? And why is the head of security the one on the door?"
He rolls his eyes. "Well, I live here, so yeah, I'm pretty much always here. And I'm not working. I just happened to be the one walking past the door when you rang the doorbell. One of the guards is downstairs when there are clients onsite, but other than the guys at the gate, we don't have someone on the door all the time."
This surprises me, and I'm sure my concern is written all overmy face as I reply. "Oh... I would have thought this place was locked up like Fort Knox?"
"Well, most of the security people live on site, so it's still safe for your girl, don't worry." He winks at me, but having him refer to Imogen as my girl distracts me from answering right away.
Is she my girl? Do I want her to be my girl?
The answer to both is a resounding 'yes' I realise. I wouldn't be here, about to have the conversation I am, if she wasn't.
"You're here to see Sebastian?" Connell asks, pulling me from my thoughts.
"Yeah. Annika apparently told him I was coming."
Connell nods and points up the staircase. "Their office is up on the second floor, sixth door on the right."
"Sixth door? How fucking big is this place?" I blurt out before I am able to stop myself.
Connell looks amused. "Well, there's eight private suites on the top floor, where we all live, and then offices and other rooms like the library are on the middle floor. Down here we've got the kitchen and formal rooms. And downstairs... Well..." He smirks. "You already know what's down there."
"Yes. The memory is burned into my mind."
Connell raises an eyebrow. "You don't sound like it was a great experience down there?"
I shake my head. "It wasn't bad... Just stirred up a lot I wasn't aware of about myself."
He nods. "I get it, man. I had a similar experience when I went down there."
I study him for a moment, remembering what Imogen had said about Connell and Annika. "And you've never been back down there for a club night?"
"Nope. Not sure I'm up for that level of temptation again."
I sense there's a story there, and while I’m curious about why he avoided pursuing the bubbly brunette despite clearly having feelings for her, he's always kept his emotions close to his chest.
"Yeah..." I reply, not sure what else to say.
I don't know if I'd want to attend another club night, but... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in exploring some of the feelings that it stirred up.
Nodding my thanks to Connell, I head up the stairs and follow his directions. Along the hall, I spy the library on the left, a massive room with floor to ceiling bookcases lining every wall.
Who'd have thought that a library was needed in a brothel? Although, given that I accidentally flicked to a particularly raunchy page in one of Imogen's books the other day, maybe it's just full of erotica to get people in the mood...
Arriving at the sixth door on the right, I knock on the solid wooden door and wait.
"Come in," Sebastian's voice calls out, and I open the door.
And my eyes damn near pop out of my head.
I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting to see on the other side of the door. But it certainly wasn't seeing him standing beside his desk with a shirtless man in front of him on his knees, sucking him off.
