“SpeakingofGwen, shouldn’t we wait for her to do the clothes exchange?Idon’t want her to feel left out.”

Rubysmirks at me.

“Oh, don’t you worry about that.Mybig bad is gonna go tell his snarly little brother to bring her right the hell back for girl time this afternoon, and to make it even better, theJollyGreenGiantis going to bring us all lunch so we don’t have to leave the room!”

“Didyou just callEinarthe ‘JollyGreenGiant?’Likethe guy off the vegetable commercials?”

Heathersounds incredulous andBambiis laughing so hard tears are rolling down her face at my sister’s antics.Shakingmy head at her,Istart giggling at the mental picture ofEinarin that leafy outfit the cartoon guy wore, and before long all four of us are laughing so hard we can’t breathe.

That’swhatGwenandMurgulwalk into.

“WhatdidImiss?”

Murgul’seyes go wide at the sight of us, and he beats a hasty retreat, but not before he leans down to nuzzleGwen’scheek with his own, his eyes closing in an expression that can only be described as bliss.Gwenhesitantly caresses his jaw in return before he turns and leaves the room.

“Oh, missy ma’am, you are going to be telling usallabout that!”

Herface turns as red as my hair atRuby’ssassy quip.

ChapterThirty-Eight

EINAR

Rowanand the other females have been holed up inFalon’sroom for the latter part of this rising.Rubysaid they were going to trade garments from their crates whenIstopped by to updateSlaviconMurgul’smating with the one calledGwen.Ihad not been inSlavic’squarters more than a few tics whenMurgularrived with his mate in tow, growling out that she wanted to begin the treatment for her throat as soon as possible.

So, we did.

Rubystopped by the med bay shortly afterMurgulandGwen’sdeparture to tell me she wanted to set a plan into motion.Ather suggestion,Ivisited only long enough to bring my mate and her new friends their midday meal.Thehappiness on my mate’s face took my breath away.Shewas elbow deep in a massive pile of garments they had spread out on the sleeping platform.

Obviously, she needed some time with the other females.

Itwas now the end of this rising andSlavic,Murgul, andIare standing outsideFalon’sdoor listening to the sound of happy, chattering females from within.Murgul’sface is the most relaxedIhave seen it in orbital rotations, and it makes my hearts joyful to witness it.

“Whowants to be the one to knock and interrupt them?”

Murgulhuffs and takes a step back, whileSlavicrolls his eyes at both of us.

“Iwant my female.Ithas been too long sinceIheld her, and she needs to eat before we retire for the sleep cycle.”Hisknuckle raps on the door with three sharp knocks.Ticslater, the door opens, and his mate stands there with a hand placed on her hip.

“Wellhello there, my big grouch.Imaginefinding you here, at a place like this?” she quips before hopping into his arms, her legs wrapping around his thick waist and her arms around his neck.

Slavicwalks off without saying a word, butRubyshouts a farewell to her sister and friends. “Byeguys,I’moff for supper and a good dicking!I’llbe back for my box of clothes whenSlavicrealizesI’llbe naked after he rips this set off me.”

Smotheringmy laughter, we all watch asSlavicstomps back into the room, grabs her crate, and stalks right back out, growling under his breath as he goes.Ihave to force myself not be envious of how easilyRubyhas acceptedSlavicinto her life.Imust remember that, though they are sisters, their life experiences have not been the same.

Murgulbrushes past me.

“Whichcrate is yours, bright one?”

Gwenpoints to it and he picks it up in one hand while silently extending the other to her, waiting for her to make the decision to come to him.Itis somewhat ironic that the gods paired them together since they both have damaged voices.

Murgulhas desperately needed someone that could understand what he has lost, and the gods granted him that.Weall watch asGwengracefully walks to him, only to be lifted into his free arm as his tail wraps around her, securing her to him since he is also carrying her crate of garments.Hermuted words float to my sensitive ears as they leave.

“Ican walk,Murgul.Youdon’t have to carry me all the time.”

Ah, good.

Hervoice is still quiet, but it’s lost the painful, jagged edge she had beforeIgave her the first set of injections.Thatshe can now speak full sentences with ease fills me with relief.Iwas not able to fixMurgul’svoice, butIam determined to help his mate the bestIcan.
