Page 46 of Cove City: Vol. I

It was like a love story that needed to be told. I handed her back the pictures and picked up the letters as I looked at her. “You can read them,” she paused. “This is between me and you. I don’t want Pierre to know. Everything you need will be in those letters. Now write the article that will capture the city’s hearts.”

Best got up from the table as I sat there thinking about Pierre. I must have gulped the tea too fast because my eyes felt heavy. I got up and walked toward the sofa. I lay my head on the armrest and dozed off.

We had pulled back up to the crib at two in the morning. Chevy was on a rampage after seeing his baby burn damn near to the ground. It was nothing any of us could say that would make that nigga calm down. Chevy hopped off the bike and paced back and forth. “Ayo, Chevy, nigga chill we’re going to figure out what the fuck happened,” Diamond said.

“It was that bitch ass nigga Bishop!”

Foe came closer to him, “What you trying to do? You know we’re down for whatever.”

I glanced at Preach, who was looking up. “Lord, please forgive me.”

I already knew shit was about to get spooky. Chevy glanced up the street. He turned toward his car, then looked at us. He fumbled with his keys and hurried to the Caprice. He popped his trunk and pulled out the choppa he kept in there. He cocked that muhfucka back and began fast pacing up the street. I shook my head, “Here we go,” I mumbled.

I jogged behind him, “Chevy what the fuck you going over here for?” I tried asking.

“Because Indigo is going to give me answers. It’s her fucking nigga and before I blow his muhfuckin head off I want her fragile ass to know it was me.”

I didn’t understand, that was that nigga’s sister, and he was treating them like they were nobody. “Chevy, I get you’re upset, but you're talking about your blood. They have nothing to do with it.”

That nigga ignored me as he began walking up the driveway. I watched as he approached the glass French doors. He gave me a slow nod, and I knew what time it was. I pulled out my gun cocking it back. Before I could make a move, Chevy drew his foot back and kicked the door in.

“Shit!”

Suddenly, bullets whistled through the glass, barely missing my head. “What the fuck!” I shouted.

When I stepped inside the maid was pressed in the corner, screaming meanwhile Chevy was standing in the middle of the foyer with his gun aimed at some nigga. I ran up to the side of Chevy, “Nigga what the fuck smoke his ass,” I gritted.

It wasn’t like him to leave a nigga standing. They stared at each other with no words. When I glanced at the other nigga I’d noticed a scar on the side of his head. His mouth eased up slowly displaying a crazy fucked up crooked smile. “Aye Chevy something ain’t right with that nigga look at him,” I whispered.

“Nah that nigga sane shooting at me. Who the fuck are you?” Chevy asked him.

“Your worst nightmare,” he slurred.

I tapped Chev’s shoulder, “Nigga, let’s go. Something ain’t right.”

Chevy’s head snapped my way. “Nigga you go. I’m trying to figure out who the fuck this nigga is. See, that first bullet missed me. I’ve been trying to be a changed nigga, but these hoe ass niggas trying me! Where is Indigo?” Chevy called out.

“Who’s asking?” The other nigga slurred.

“Her brother, now, where is she?”

The crazy nigga shook his head. “I’m her only brother,” he slurred again.

“Fuck this!” Chevy roared and emptied his clip.

Rat-a-tat-a-tat-tat! Rat-a-tat-a-tat-tat! Rat-a-tat-a-tat-tat!

The other guy dove on the other side of the wall. “Fuck man!” I snapped.

Chevy rushed over to peak behind the wall and the nigga was gone. “Fuck did he go?”

My eyes scanned the room then out of the window, and I saw that nigga hauling ass. “Chevy that nigga gone man. Maybe he broke in or some shit.”

Chevy sucked his teeth as he tucked his gun and head back out of the front door. Diamond, Preach, and Foe came running up. “Yo what the fuck!” Preach yelled.

“What happened?” Foe asked.

“Chevy went to talk to his sister but was met with fucking Nigga Myers.”
