His thoughts must mirror mine because he hangs his head in shame. Adam lets go of my hand, and I freeze when he closes the distance between him and my dad and wraps his arms around him.
Oh, Jesus.
I hide my amused smile as my dad’s eyes widen in horror. Unsure what to do with his hands, he just stands there, not moving a muscle.
“Hug me back, you dick,” Adam mutters. “You’re making it awkward.”
My dad looks uncomfortable as hell as he pats Adam’s back.
“Does this mean you forgive me?” he asks hopefully.
Adam finally releases him and looks at me, checking we’re on the same page. “No,” he says. “Not yet. You just looked like you needed that.”
“I didn’t, but thank you anyway.”
I meet my father’s eyes. “Don’t lose her, Dad.”
“I’m trying not to.”
“Try harder.”
He gives me a helpless look, and I cock my head, laughing lightly when I realize what he’s thinking. He has no idea what to do.
“How you managed to get her to fall for you is beyond me. Grovel.” I widen my eyes, spelling it out for him. “Beg. Tell her what you just told us and apologize until you’re blue in the face. Get on your knees if you have to. That’s what Adam does for me.” I wiggle my brows.
Adam pinches the bridge of his nose, cursing me under his breath as his face burns hot.
“I didn’t need to hear that,” my dad says.
I smirk. “Consider it your punishment.”
He shakes his head at me and turns toward his car.
“Where are you going?” I call after him.
“To do everything you just said. Wish me luck.”
“Good luck,” I say quietly. He’s gonna need it.
Adam takes my hand again, and we watch him drive away.
“You think he and my mum are going to be okay?” Adam asks.
“I hope so, baby.”
I hate to think what’ll happen to my dad if they’re not.
CHAPTER 41
ADAM
Afew days later, I quietly crawl onto Easton’s bed and straddle him. I watch him for a moment, making sure he’s really asleep before I wake him up by smashing a cupcake into his face. He grunts and cracks an eye open, scraping some frosting off his cheek with his finger and sticking it into his mouth. Leaning over him, I eat some off his jaw.
“Happy birthday, sunshine.”
He opens his mouth, and I shove another cupcake into it.
“Happy birthday, baby.”
