Sorry, forgot to lead with nothing’s wrong. I have a request that I know knee-jerk Danae would not say yes to. So please reserve judgment until I’ve fully pled my case.

DANAE

I’ll make a concerted effort. This is not the best start, though.

ME

I want you to take off work on Thursday and pull Jason out of school.

DANAE

You have an uphill battle ahead of you.

ME

I know, I know. But we have one day off with no game on Thursday after we get home from this series before we start our stretch of home games. I’ll still have training in the morning, but I want to take Jason to do something fun together. And Sam wants to hang out with you by herself for the day. She has something special planned and specifically asked to take you with her.

DANAE

What is it?

ME

I’m sworn to secrecy.

DANAE

But I’m your girlfriend. You love me.

ME

Ughhhh you can’t do that. Not a fair fight. I promised Sam she could surprise you.

DANAE

This is all a part of your ploy to get me to take the day off, isn’t it? Intrigue me with a mystery that I won’t be able to stop thinking about.

ME

Is it working?

DANAE

It might be.

ME

I’ll make your sub plans for you. “Have the kids read books for an hour.” Done.

DANAE

You know that’s not what I do.
