Loretta laughed at whatever the loudmouth said, and Fiona joined in, clearly amused.I just picked at my food, feeling more out of place with each passing second.
“So, Cami, is it?”the blonde finally addressed me.
I smiled and nodded.Keeping my side clean.
“You and Alfonso?Wow.”
“Simi?”Fiona warned.
More sniggers came from Loretta.Fuck, she was obnoxious.
I forced a smile and shrugged, honestly, I didn’t have the energy for this.
"You do know where he is right now?"
"Simi," Fiona warned.
"He’s at a meeting," I replied, my voice steady.
"Meeting, sure."Simi laughed, clearly unconvinced.
"Stop it.I mean it," Fiona hissed, her tone sharper now.
"What?I’m not doing anything."The blonde shrugged, a playful innocence in her voice. She spoke in rapid Italian to Alfonso's sister, and the others shifted uncomfortably. The atmosphere around the table had already started to sour, and I didn’t like where this was heading.
“Where is he?”I asked Fiona.
“You should ask my brother that when he returns.”
“I’m asking you.”
“And I’m not getting into this,” Fiona said with a stern tone.
“With a mistress,” Simi said.“Everyone who dates Alfonso knows about this one.She is fulfilling probably the most important need of them all.”
“Simi, enough!”Fiona and the big guy, who hadn’t acknowledged me once, said in unison.
“What? She needs to know all the ins and outs when it comes to that man.Especially this.”
Her English was flawless, and for some reason, the food lost its appeal.
"Excuse me," I muttered, standing up from the table.
"Camilla," Fiona called after me.Loretta’s giggle echoed in the air, as if the situation amused her, while my blood boiled.
He lied to me.Said he was at a meeting.
I couldn’t let it go.I needed answers.I found Bastian quickly, my voice sharp as I demanded, "I need the truth, and I need it now."
TWENTY-TWO
THE LITTLE RUNAWAY
"Where is he?"I shouted at Bas, my frustration bubbling over.
"He’s at a very important meeting."
"With a mistress?A woman, Bas?"
