But then I heard the word “American” and my head snapped up. That could only mean me.
To my horror, I saw Andrei fucking Petrovic, in the goddamnflesh. He was facing away from me, but I’d recognize that arrogant head and cocksure stance anywhere. I started backing away quietly, but someone was pointing in my direction, and before I could crawl out of view, he turned around and saw me.
Those ice-blue angel’s eyes narrowed in fury and he rushed toward me.
I thanked God that that gate was always kept locked, as he barked back for someone to come open it.
But I was already on my feet, flying through the garden and jumping over the hedges.
“Cerise, don’t you dare run from me!” he roared.
I just hoped I knew the nunnery better than he did so I could find a hiding spot before he found me.
I raced through the grounds. I risked a look behind me. I didn’t see him, so I darted into one of the dormitories attached to the cafeteria.
I raced as fast as I could through a group of other postulants, trying to be polite while I tried to put as much distance between Andrei and me as I could.
But when the door was wrenched open with a shattering crash, I knew he had found me. I couldn’t help looking back. His eyes were locked on me.
I careened around the corner, temporarily invisible from him.
But as always he had the devil’s own speed, and the devil’s own luck, too.
I heard the pounding of his feet, and then he was around the corner.
“Goddamn you, Cerise, for making me chase you!” he roared.
In a few quick strides he overtook me and grabbed my wrist.
“Let me go!” I cried, trying to wrench away, but he jerked me toward him.
“I am taking you back, whether you want to go or not!” he snarled, sounding furious.
He reached out and ripped off my veil.
“And take this ridiculous thing off! My wife is not going to be a nun.”
My hair fell out, loose and wild, around my face, and I felt his sharp intake of breath.
“I am not going to be your wife!” I cried, struggling in his arms and kicking his legs.
“The fucking hell you aren’t, Cerise!” he said grimly. “Not only will you marry me, but you are going to spend your first week as a wife with the reddest ass you can imagine.”
In desperation, I bit his hand and he dropped me in surprise.
I shot off down the hallway, but Andrei pounced on me in a second, putting a big arm around my chest and another around my waist.
I kicked out energetically with my legs on his shins.
“I’m not going back with you,” I yowled.
He turned me around and shoved me up against the wall.
“Who told you about my proclivities?” he hissed in my ear.
“What? No one!” I gasped.
He grabbed both of my hands with one arm and pinned them above my head. I struggled against his grip, but he was too powerful. I wasn’t escaping this time. With his knee he drove unmercifully through my legs, ripping my thighs apart and forcing me to spread my legs. I felt heat grow all along my body and build in my core.
