“I’ll let Andrei answer that himself,” said Frederik.
“I saw him slit the throats of two of his father’s men today,” I said flatly. “I know there’s shit you aren’t telling me.”
Frederik’s expression didn’t change. “I know they have been expanding the family business into new territories,” he said obliquely. “But you don’t have to worry about Andrei. He has always had the devil’s own luck.”
“I am not worried about Andrei!” I cried. “I don’t carewhathappens to him!”
Frederik’s lips twitched. “I think you might be very a good wife for him.”
“He doesn’t want a wife,” I retorted. But I liked Frederik very much, even if he was evasive.
“We’ll see about that,” was all his uncle would reply.
I saw Andrei come back, throwing his phone on the table and taking off his suit jacket. He hung it casually on the back of his chair and then started rolling up his sleeves.
I tried not to look at him, but I snuck one quick peep as I took a sip of wine. The sight of the muscles in his forearms made my stomach clench. I put my knees firmly together to stop my pussy from pounding with desire.
Of course he caught me looking at him.
His eyes didn’t look friendly or warm, but they were sharp and uncomfortably aware.
“You’re such a little fucking liar, Cerise. You’ve come all the way to Moscow to be my wife and now you’re pretending you aren’t dying to have my cock inside you.”
“I came for the 5 million dollars,” I said, my heart starting to beat faster.
“Has my uncle been telling you about our family business?” he asked, leaning back in his chair and toying with his silverware.
God, he looked so good.
“Not really,” I said cautiously, unsure of the right answer.
“We’re Bratva, Cerise. That’s the Russian mafia. We’re criminals. I just slit the throats of two men, on the slight chance they might have betrayed me. I killed a man during an arms deal last week because he walked too close to me. I’m wanted in ten other countries.”
I heard Frederik make a strangled squawking sound. I didn’t know what to say. I was just caught in Andrei’s predatory gaze.
“So you see, Cerise,” he said deliberately, turning the knife around in his hands. “Now you know too much for me to let you leave. You’re trapped here with me. Youcan’tgo home.”
And his mouth curved up in a cruel, unforgiving smile.

The housekeeper ledme to a spacious room with big windows and a huge four-poster bed in the middle. Everything was sleek marble and polished surfaces. The room and ensuite bathroom were bigger than my entire apartment back home.
I stood and looked around for a second. I was exhausted but I took a good, hard look at the beautifully carved wooden door. I ran my fingers around the carved figures of angels, demons, and humans.
I didn’t trust this door to doshit.
I started to haul furniture in front of it. I pushed over two bureaus, a table, and a cabinet. Then I remembered the expression in Andrei’s eyes as he chased me around the table and I headed to my bed.
It took a long-ass time to move it but I was thankful I had barricaded the door when I heard Andrei at it before I had gotten undressed for the night. He didn’t even knock. He just did something with the lock and the door popped open, but not very far because I had put the bed, both dressers, and everything else I could haul in front of it.
“Get this shit out of here,” he said coldly.
“No!” I said, my heart beating so fast I felt breathless.
“Cerise, you have to come out some time,” he snarled at me.
“Go away!” I cried.
