She claimed he wouldn’t have, but I don’t know.

However, Luna said not to kill him, so I won’t.

“Luke,” she repeated, “did you kill Adrian?”

“Yes, I did,” I assured her. “He was dealing again. Messing with the blues like before so people got a bunch of dangerous shit mixed in. And I remember you told me once that if you found out he’d been doing that again, you’d kill him. I didn’t want you to have to do that, Luna. I love you and I want to do everything I can to show you.”

Her jaw dropped and I felt my cock twitch at the sight of that little pink mouth opening.

“I. . . told you to kill my own brother?” she croaked.

“Yes, you did,” I reassured her, taking her hand and gently rubbing her palm.

My eyes flicked over her face. Sometimes her facial expressions were mysterious to me. I hoped this was excitement, but perhaps the idea would take some getting used to.

“You said you’d kill him and that anybody who didn’t give a shit about dealing an overdose deserved it.”

“But he was your best friend!” she said, her brows furrowing together. “Didn’t you care about him at all?”

“He was hurting people,” I said. “I thought you’d want me to stop it. I’m sorry if you don’t like it. You said once that people who knowingly deal in blues should all be shot. Wait, is that why you’re annoyed? Because I didn’t shoot him? I didn’t have a gun at the moment.”

When she still gaped at me, I took her arm gently.

“Let’s go back to our hotel room and talk about when you want me to propose to you.”

CHAPTER 18

Luna

Back in the hotel, his eyes scanned mine anxiously.

I felt helpless in the face of his psychopathic behavior.

“When do you want me to propose to you?” he asked again. “I was thinking since we fly to Ottawa tomorrow, that tonight would be ideal. Maybe outside Green Gables? Or the Haunted Wood at sunset? I have two engagement rings: sapphire and alexandrite. Alexandrite is hard and its vibrant color is a good representation of our good fortune and luck as we get married.”

“I don’t—” I began helplessly.

“Don’t what?” he asked. “I’ll do any stone you want, any gem you like. I just want you to be happy.”

I tried to beat on his chest but he clasped my hands gently together and let me kick him angrily in the shins while he carefully took my big coat off.

“How can you fucking act so normal when you literally just admitted to killing my brother?”

“I was just trying to be helpful.”

I looked into those bright feral eyes and I wanted to scream for help. But I knew no help was coming. And if anybody did come, he’d meet them at the door with his big goofy boyish grinand those devastating baby blue eyes and no one would believe I was being kept here by force.

Not Luke O’Neill. He’dnever need to hold a woman by force.

I should’ve known he was insane, no one could be that cheerful and be fully sane.

“How did you do it?” I asked.

“Just made sure he had too much to drink, and then followed him back to the hotel. When I saw a ditch, I hit him over the head and threw him in the ditch so it looked like he just fell down.”

I was gobsmacked with such stupidity. “Did you even check to make sure there weren’t any cameras around?” I asked.

“No,” he said, his brows wrinkling.
