“If it would make you happy to,” Luke agreed. He moved closer to me, raising all the tiny hairs on the back of my neck.

“But I couldn’t promise I’d stay in there.”

He bent to my neck, his lips just barely skimming my flesh. My skin tingled and prickled and I tried to set my jaw against the way blood pooled and heated deep in my cunt.

“What do you mean?” I asked, balling my hands into fists.

“I mean I couldn’t physically stay in there. Knowing you were out here would drive me to try to escape. Every day. I’d feel you out there and I couldn’t help myself. If I got caught once, I’d try it again. And again. And again, until I broke out and made my way to you.”

“That’s dangerous!” I cried. “They could shoot you during an escape, killyou.”

Luke raised a big hand to my neck, curving around the back, his long limbs unfolding to box me in on the bed.

He bore me down on my back and bent over me, kissing my neck, curling his tongue up playfully under my throat, then around my ear, making me squeal when he rolled it inside.

“I guess it would be,” he said. “If you asked me not to, I would try to stay there. But I know I couldn’t do it. It would be like a constant pulse pulling at me and I wouldn’t be able to stop.”

Goddamn Luke

I knew it was true. He’d be like a caged panther. Constantly pacing, testing the bars. And when he’d see an opportunity, he’d take it.

Even if it meant putting himself at risk.

The stupid jackass would probably get himself shot trying to break out and hunt me down.

“What other secrets do you have?” I asked, and my hands slid up and around his neck, just because that gleaming tanned skin was in front of me and I didn’t know if I could resist.

He sighed with pleasure as my fingers ran up his throat and into his hair. I felt goosebumps break out under my fingers.

Other hair brushed my fingers, and with a feeling of foreboding, I yanked what was lying under his shirt.

I was too far in to be surprised, so I only felt a plunge like I had just gone down a rollercoaster to feel between my fingers the evidence of his insane obsession.

Thick and tightly knitted together, and unmistakably mine. My natural blue-black, the pink highlights I’d had a few years ago, then the attempt to go red, even a few silver hairs.

I dropped the necklace.

“I’m going to go get a cop. And it’s for my safety so you have to do what I say. If you love me, stay here and wait to be arrested.”

CHAPTER 19

Luna

Imarched down the street toward the police department.

Goddamn Luke.

With one hand, I felt the missing chunks of my hair. He must really have been going fucking feral that night.

My life for the last several years had been ruled by a dark, possessive obsession I’d been totally ignorant of.

Well, that was ending now. I was going to go get the police. Get a wholearmyof Canadian Mounties.

There was plenty of evidence. He’d confessed to killing my brother. If I told him to, he’d even confess to the cops.

Hell, he was so sloppy who knew what other murders could be pinned on him?

It would be easy to put him in jail.
