“Or I can walk downstairs. I love it!”

“I love you.” All the kissing was making me want more.

Kate surprised me by locking her office door. “I love you, too. How about we test out what it takes to have sex in this office?”

The blinds were shut, the door locked, and no one else around…

I lifted her onto the desk. “The lady gets what the lady wants.”

“Of course the couch will make this much easier in the future.” She gasped as I nuzzled her breasts.

“And I appreciate that, but why don’t we focus on the fun possibilities of this desk first?”

Kate grinned. “Oh, aye Captain Anson. Focusing on the here and now, even if the future with you is so bright I can’t help but be blinded by it sometimes.”

I circled her wrists with my fingers and held her captive. “I am very much looking forward to spending forever with you, Doc.” A memory hit me. A very special memory. “You remember the first night you came home with me?”

“Of course.” She wriggled in my grasp, searching for friction.

Friction I would normally have given her, but I was currently having an amazing epiphany. “You asked some very important questions. Why me? Why now? Why couldn’t we have met years ago.”

She stilled, big, beautiful eyes staring up at me filled with love. “I remember.”

“Well I finally have an answer.” Do I wish we had the last ten years together? Hell yeah. But I found her now, not then. “In baseball we have a term for when you hit the ball just right. The ball hits the bat in the exact perfect place for maximum velocity. If you hit it anywhere else it isn’t as effective. I think…no, I know if we met before this we would have fallen in love, but it would have been messy. I wasn’t in the right place and I don’t think you were either. We met at the perfect time for the maximum effect our love can create.” Even a year ago I would have made a mess of a relationship with Kate. I would have tried like hell, that I knew for sure, but I would have fucked it up along the way. Hurt her in ways I never wanted to.

So, in a way, I was glad we met when we did.

Kate pulled one hand out of my grasp and pressed her palm into my cheek before kissing me once lightly on the lips. “That is a beautiful answer to my question. I love you so much, Isaac.”

“I love you, too.”

Then she grinned. “So what’s it called?”

I bounced my eyebrows and pulled her to the edge of the desk where I could press into her heat. “It’s called the sweet spot.”

Epilogue

Annalise Ryan

“Annalise!” Hope waved her hand through the air. Rhett stood beside her expressionless, like normal.

I jogged up to them and stopped. “Good morning! Ready to run?”

“Who’s that?” Rhett nodded to the German shepherd at my side.

“This is Roscoe. Roscoe, this is the devil. Attack.” Roscoe cocked his head, looking up at me like I’d lost my mind.

“Funny,” Rhett replied.

Hope giggled, dropping down to her knees to greet Roscoe. “How old is he?”

“Three.” Three going on one. He acted more like a puppy than I’d like.

“When did this…creature…join the family?”

“Two months ago. Julianne moved to Europe and couldn’t take him with her, so I adopted him.” And it was the best thing I ever did. Roscoe and I were inseparable. He loved to jog, scare away gross men, and swim in the pool. I was slowly teaching him how to dribble the soccer ball.

“Oh, that’s too bad!” Hope ruffled his fur. Roscoe turned and backed into her so she could keep it up.
