“Ah, a subject I could talk about all day, immortal.” Maddie smiled. “It’s the one thing I’m good at, and lucky for me, it’s something I love. I like creating pieces that are unusual but beautiful.” She bit her lip and stared up at his bright green irises. “What do you like doing?”

Noah tilted his head up and peered at the stone ceiling. “Before coming here, I made coffee, but I didn’t love it. I really don’t know what I want to do, if I’m being honest. I’ll be finishing college soon. My parents want me to take over their business one day. It’s not something I’m interested in, though. I used to want to make movies when I was younger or write books, but my parents said it was a waste of time, that it wasn’t a sure way of making money.”

“I would read your book.” Maddie grinned. A book was an extraordinary way of getting into one’s mind, even more so than talking to them.

“Maybe when this is over, I’ll help you sell your hats.” Noah chuckled. “We could be hat dealers or some shit.”

“A lovely plan.” Except he wouldn’t be staying in Wonderland, and she wouldn’t be living in the mortal world. The thought made her hand slip, unintentionally brushing between his legs. She brought it back up to his abdomen, an unstoppable heat spreading through her.

“So,” Noah drawled. “About last night… I haven’t done anything like that in a while with anyone who wasn’t my girlfriend.”

Maddie’s heart stilled, her stomach sinking as she thought of all the times she had. “I’ve never had a boyfriend. I’ve always just been needed when needed, I suppose.”

He turned her face so their gazes met, his holding hers steady. “You deserve better than that.”

Something about that one small sentence, the sincere look on his face, sent a rush of emotions barreling through her, causing her heart to flutter. Then she did the one thing she hadn’t planned on doing. Her mouth collided with his. And he didn’t hesitate to kiss her back. His lips tasted like vanilla, his tongue akin to sweet honey. She could drink his flavor for eternity and never grow tired of it. Not then, not ever.

Maddie hesitantly pulled back and rested her forehead against his shoulder. “Thank you for those words.”

“I meant them,” he whispered.

A new emotion coursed through her veins, spreading to each nerve, each fiber. An untamable desire. “Do you want to help each other again tonight?” Her voice came out husky.

“Very much.”

In answer, she maneuvered herself so she was in his lap, her legs cradling his strong thighs. Her breath hitched as his hard length nestled perfectly between her slickened folds.

Maddie’s heart accelerated when she pressed her lips to Noah’s, his hands hugging her waist, his fingers digging deliciously into her flesh. As her tongue entwined with his, she rolled her hips forward, and her eyelids fluttered at the delectable pleasure. She continued to slide up and down his cock, releasing moan after moan. Their kisses deepened, tasting everything they could from one another. Noah groaned when her pace picked up, the friction growing stronger. One of his hands skimmed up her spine and entangled with her wet curls. He wasn’t inside her, but it felt just as good—she was already too close to ecstasy and didn’t want to stop.

And then a feeling rose, a sense of something she wanted to catch and hold onto. The sensation spread and built within her until everything shattered, everything becoming liquid, including her heart, at the heightened euphoria. In that moment, she yearned to have Noah feel better than good, so she took her mouth from his and trailed kisses down his throat, his chest, his abdomen, until she was at his hardened length. Maddie wanted him to come the way she just had.

“Fuck,” he rasped when she took him into her mouth. His groaning turned into animalistic growls as her tongue circled the head of his cock and then let him go deeper. Slow. Fast. Faster. She sucked and licked and pumped, stroking him to his base. His hips lifted slightly while she worked him, relishing in the intimacy, until his body tightened, quaked, and he murmured her name over and over. Noah’s cum tasted just as good as his mouth—every part of him did. Her fangs itched to lower, to take in the flavor of his immortal blood.

Noah drew her up, his fingers lifting her chin as he kissed her lips softly once more. “That was the best I’ve ever had.”

No one had ever told her that before either… Not about anything besides her hats.

“Do you want me to get your clothing?” she asked, peeling herself from his body and sitting beside him.

“No,” he whispered, drawing her close.

“Me neither.” She folded herself around him, both of them nestled against the wall, their breaths heavy. Neither sleeping nor talking, but as she pressed her hand over his chest and felt his heart beating, it seemed to sayeverything.

Chapter Sixteen

Noah

Growls and booming footsteps had shaken the walls of the safe house after Noah and Maddie had taken care of each other the night before. The sounds kept him up despite Maddie’s assurance that they wouldn’t be found, yet the noises hadn’t prepared him for the paw prints in the mud outside the boulder. He froze. Dozens of them dotted the shore of the lake, each as big as his hand. With deep claws.

“What caused these?” he asked, already knowing the answer as he studied the prints.

“Werewolves,” Maddie answered matter-of-factly. “Their territory isn’t far now and they like to swim in the lake.”

And she’d suggested he bathe in it? Well, dip into the water. He’d barely gotten wet before the howling began. “So…” He sprinted over the prints to follow Maddie. “How large are these beasts exactly?”

Maddie let out a chuckle and shrugged. “Big enough.”

Noah had seen plenty of movies about the creatures but they were very inconsistent with the lore. He wasn’t sure how he imagined the ones in Wonderland. Now though? He imagined them as fucking petrifying.
