“You need to stop or you’re going to make me cry. I’m not going to lie and say I wasn’t worried about what your family would think about me, a divorced, single mother.”
“Don’t talk like that. Luke hasn’t told us much, but it sounds like you’re better off not being married and Mason is adorable. You shouldn’t worry, my family already loves you and once they meet you you’ll be part of the family.”
Wrapping my arms around him, I hugged Leo as relief flowed through me. “Thank you.”
“Is everything okay?” Luke asked with Mason by his side. He watched, concerned, as I stepped back from Leo.
“Sweetness must run in the family. Leo almost made me cry.”
“Only telling her the truth, bro. Please tell me that you got me some burgers.” Leo eyed the bags full of food.
Luke laughed as he started to remove everyone’s lunch. “I told you he wouldn’t have eaten yet.”
We sat at a small table that was in the kitchen area eating our lunch. I took in the changes that had been made since I was here in January. Not much had been done since Luke had only just bought the house, but now I could see all the small touches he’d added. There were candles and a few knickknacks here and there. I hadn’t ventured into much of the house, but now it looked lived in. It was a home instead of just a house.
“Mama did you know that there’s a pool? Luke said I could swim in it, but only if someone is out there with me.”
Reaching over, I squeezed Luke’s arm that rested on the table. “He’s right you have to have someone out there. I bet we’ll get to swim a few times while we’re here, especially if the pools heated.”
“For you, it’s heated. I haven’t had a chance to use the pool yet, but I knew you’d want to hang outside and use the pool.”
“Hey, Leo,” Mason called animatedly. “Did you know that I have a new house where we live, and it has a pool too? We haven’t been able to go swimming because it’s too cold there.”
“A new house with a pool? That’s cool. I know all about the cold. I live in Sweden and it’s been cold and dark for months. I may never want to leave the LA sunshine.”
Mason tilted his head with furrowed brows. “Where’s Sweden? Is it close to Missouri?”
“No, it’s very far away.” Leo’s face softened. “Sweden isn’t in the United States. It’s in Europe. Do you know where that is?”
“Mmhmm, no,” Mason shook his head. “I think I’ve heard of it.”
“After lunch we’ll get on the computer and I’ll show you where it is if you want.”
“Have you seen my room yet? Mama my room is so cool! You have to see it. Can I show you after we eat?”
“Yeah,” Leo answered. “You can show us and then I’ll show you where Sweden is while Luke shows your mom what he’s done to the house.” He winked at Luke, but quickly turned his attention back to Mason.
After lunch was finished, we all let Mason lead us to his room where he showed Leo and me the room Luke had made for him. It was amazing all the work that he’d put into making Mason a space of his own.
Crooking my finger, I beckoned Luke to me. He gave me a small smile as he slowly walked to me. Once he was in arm’s reach, I wrapped my arms around his neck, giving him a hug and kiss. “Thank you. I can’t remember the last time he was so happy. This means a lot to the both of us.”
Pulling my body flush against his, Luke kissed my forehead. “I’d do anything for the two of you. Get used to it.”
“Where’s your room, mama? My bed’s so big you can share with me if you want.”
Biting my bottom lip, I was unsure what to say. Luckily Luke saved me. “When you’re here your mom and I will share my bedroom and when I’m in Fairlane, your mom will share her bedroom with me.”
Mason looked confused for a moment and I got worried that he wasn’t ready for this step in our lives. If that was the case, I was going to be heartbroken. I couldn’t imagine spending another night not in Luke’s arms.
“If that’s alright with you. We should’ve had a sit down with you and asked how you’d feel about me moving in with the both of you and sharing a bedroom with your mom.”
When Luke stayed the last time, he slept in my room, but maybe Mason hadn’t paid much attention. I knew for a fact that he’d found us asleep in my bed together.
“You’re moving in with us?” His little eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “But you live here.”
“Itisconfusing and for that I’m sorry. My job requires that I be here to shoot the show that I’m on, but when I’m not shooting it or have another project, I would like to live with you and your mom. I would also like for you to consider this house yours too.”
Mason’s eyes grew large as he looked from Luke to me and then scanned his room before coming back to Luke again. “I’d have two houses?”
