His eyes sparkled as his full lips curved up into a smile. “And tomorrow you’ll be my wife.”

Looking down, I started to button up his shirt. “Does it bother you that I’ve been married before? That you’re not going to be my first husband?”

Stopping me from buttoning any further, Luke wrapped his fingers around my wrists. “Maybe if you had married him out of love, but no, it doesn’t bother me.” Letting go he used one finger to tilt my chin up to look at him. “I think it bothers you. You wish I was your first.”

Tears instantly sprang to my eyes, my chin trembled as I spoke. “It isn’t fair. You deserve to be someone’s first husband, the father of their first child. Your special and I want you to feel how special you are. Not…”

His lips pressed to mine as his arms wrapped tight around me. It wasn’t a passionate kiss, but one of comfort. Our lips rested against the others, eyes closed. “What we have is special. Don’t ever think differently. I don’t care that you’ve been married before because I know that we’re going to stay married until the day that one of us dies and forever after that.”

With everything in me, I held myself together. I couldn’t cry. Not now when I was supposed to leave in only a few minutes and my makeup would be ruined. Opening my eyes, I was met by Luke’s Caribbean blue’s staring back at me. “You can’t say such sweet things to me and not expect me to cry.”

Looking down at me the love he held for me swam in his eyes as a soft smile tipped his lips. “But do you feel better?”

“I feel better.” I answered. He had made me feel better, but I was still an emotional wreck. Tomorrow Luke would be my husband and I couldn’t wait. I felt as if I’d waited my entire life for him. “I love you.”

His eyes softened at my words. Something I noticed they did every time I told him I loved him. Sometimes it was still hard for me to believe that he was just as affected by me as I was him. “And I love you, beautiful.”

We heard footsteps only a second before Taylor appeared in the doorway. She bit her lip, trying to hide a smile. “Hey, I thought you’d be ready.”

I couldn’t stop my smile. It was likely she knew exactly what we’d been up to.

“Almost. Luke is putting on my shoes and then I’ll be ready.” Dangling my other shoe by my fingertip, Luke shook his head, but took it none the less.

“What are you guys up to tonight?”

Hiking my leg on his shoulder, Luke ran his hand up from just above my knee to the arch of my foot. “Don’t know. They wouldn’t tell me.”

Taylor laughed, her voice tinkling. “Sounds familiar.”

“Indeed.”

My head moved back and forth between them, my hands resting on Luke’s chest for balance. It made me beyond happy that they got along so well. If they hadn’t, I didn’t know what I would’ve done because I desperately needed them both in my life.

“Are you sure your mom’s okay with watching all the kids?”

Turning his head in Taylor’s direction, Luke slipped my heel on. “Positive, she loves kids and wants to get to know Mason. She’s tired of waiting for us to have kids and is ready to take on her grandmother role. I think she’s hoping Alex will get pregnant while on our honeymoon.”

A choking sound came out of me, but both Luke and Taylor ignored it.

“So…” Taylor bit her bottom lip, clasped her hands behind her back while looking at anything but us. She was nervous for some reason. She took a deep breath and met both our stares. “I wanted to give you a heads up for tonight.”

Luke growled a foreign curse under his breath, his arm wrapped around my shoulder.

My brows furrowed. I didn’t like or understand the tone the room had changed to. “What is it?” My voice shook. Luke’s hand squeezed my shoulder.

“It’s got nothing to do with the parties.” Taylor blurted out and then spun around where she stood, stopping to look hesitantly back at us. “I don’t want to cause any problems, but Luke, I wanted to warn you that Jack will probably try to persuade you to change your mind about the prenup.”

Pulling away, he stood rigid in front of us both. His tight jaw ticked every few seconds while he kept his eyes closed.

Sliding off the counter, I stepped toward him and wrapped my arms around him. For one-second, I was afraid he’d reject me, but his arms instantly wrapped around me as he buried his face in my hair. I stood rubbing my hands up and down his back as he slowly relaxed in my arms.

One last squeeze and he took a step back. “It’ll be fine. He’s made his opinion clear on what he thinks I should do, but don’t let it ruin your night. I’ll politely let him know that I’m not going to change my mind.”

“Luke, maybe…”

“Not going to happen.” He interrupted, eyes blazing. “Now give me one last kiss before you become my wife.”

“You like saying that word,” I mumbled as I stood on tip-toe to kiss him.
