“Yes, please come inside and close the door behind you,” I say sternly. The past month it has been hard to hide how I feel about Tyson at the office, so I decided no more Mrs. Nice Boss, not that I ever was one, but I’m especially hard on Tyson. And from what he’s said, everyone noticed and wondered what he did to piss me off.
He stalks toward me with no emotion on his face. As if he hadn’t woken me up this morning with his head between my thighs until I came all over his face and fingers.
My lights are off with the only light coming from the floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the city. I love to look out and see the busy city throughout my day, and the twinkling lights at night. Although there haven’t been too many late nights at the office since Tyson came into my life.
Speaking of Tyson, he stands in front of my desk with his hands clasped in front as he stares straight ahead waiting for me to acknowledge him again or to offer him a seat.
“Mr. Jacobs, please sit. I’d like to go over a few things with you.” I shuffle the papers on my desk and stack them at the corner of my desk.
His eyes widen for the briefest of moments before he takes a seat. I watch as he places his clasped hands on one knee and keeps his stoic expression.
“First, I wanted to inform you that Mathers will be installing a more sophisticated security system throughout the building. Everyone will be required to use their assigned keycard in the lobby along with several other places throughout the building.” Tyson raises an eyebrow in question. I’m sure he’s wondering why I’m telling him this. “Part of the upgrade will be security cameras placed strategically throughout the building.”
He clears his throat and looks around the room.
“As far as I know there aren’t any cameras in my office. I do know there will be some in the stairwells, and in front of the elevators, but that’s as far as my knowledge goes.”
This means that Tyson and I will have to keep a strictly professional relationship while at work.
“Do they know?” he shakes his head. “No, that would be a pretty extreme measure just to catch your employees in a compromising situation.”
“Oh, they’re looking to catch employees, but not us. There have been multiple expensive items that have gone missing from Mathers, and they’re going to do everything in their power to catch who it is. The cameras will be installed this weekend while everyone is gone, and no one will be the wiser. The keycard system will take a little longer, but it will be in plain sight.”
His straight brows cinch. “Is that why you called me in? It could have waited until we got home.” His mouth clamps shut, and he looks everywhere but me.
In the past month, Tyson hasn’t spent a night in his own bed. He’s gone back to his apartment to pick up clothes and toiletries, but that’s it. In all honesty, I have no idea what could possibly be left there. We’re living together without officially living together. I’ve thought about asking him, but at the mention of home, he starts acting weird just as he is right now. I think he’s afraid I’m going to tell him I want him to leave and to not come back.
I let it slide for now and I’ll bring it up when he can’t ignore me. When he’s fucking me, he can’t look away. Well, he could, but he won’t. Not after I told him about how Gerald would never look at me when we had sex.
“That’s not the only reason, but I wanted you to know. We’re going to have to be even more careful from now on.”
Tyson’s jaw ticks, but he doesn’t speak.
I know that he wants to come out as a couple and hates sneaking around, but we needed to keep it a secret until he was hired. Now we need to give it a little more timeifhe accepts the job, I’m about to tell him about.
“Tyson,” I sigh his name. Hating that it hurts him that no one knows about us. “I know you don’t like hiding, but it’s not forever. I promise.”
“I know,” he snaps, childishly. Eyes trained to the city landscape outside my office.
Again, I don’t say anything because I don’t want to fight with him at work and I do understand why he’s upset.
“I also called you in here to let you know that after a long meeting about the Johnson account, we have decided to go with your idea and make you team leader.”
“Really?” he perks up.
“And there’s more,” I lead, loving the sight of him so happy and enthused.
“Do I have to bend you over your desk and fuck you for you to tell me?” he asks with a twinkle in his eye. He would love to do just that, but I don’t want the entire sixteenth floor hearing us.
The smile that blooms across my face, I don’t bother to hide. Instead I shake my head and lean back in my chair. “If you accept, you’re no longer an intern here at Mathers, but a full-time employee, and because they like your ideas and hard work, you’ll be starting out with a salary of forty-five thousand dollars and a bonus.”
Tyson sits in shock, opening and closing his mouth for a few moments before he stands and spills out. “Holy fucking shit, Sadie! Did you do this?”
Standing, I make my way to the front of my desk and in front of Tyson, placing my hands on his firm chest. “It was all you. I only told them the truth about what I’ve witnessed from you. If you keep it up, you’ll soon be stealing my job.”
“This is some of the best news I’ve ever heard. Right after finding out I was cancer-free.”
Pulling me flush against his tall, muscular frame, he circles me in his arms. I can’t help but rest my head on his glorious chest. The feel of his tight muscles bunch as he pulls me closer and the sound of his heart beating are perfect. I could stay in his arms forever, if he’d let me.
