“Maybe,” I take a sip of my drink to hide how much I want to smile at being devious.

“Okay,” he nods, moving closer. “I’ll play.” He holds his hand out, and when I extend mine out, thinking he’s going to shake it, he bows his head as he takes my hand and kisses the top of it. He looks up. His once honey-colored eyes now resemble a fine whiskey in color. “I’m Kade, and you are?”

“Raine,” I squeak out the most uncool sound in the world. Why can’t I at least sound like I’m not freaking out on the inside?

“What a unique name for a unique woman.” All I can do is stare at him. “Shall we move on to the next photo?”

I nod my agreement and take another sip. As we stand in front of a picture of little footprints in the sand, I finally feel the effects of my drink as my body starts to relax.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen such tiny footprints in the sand,” he comments.

“They love the beach,” I answer absentmindedly.

Taking his gaze off the picture, Kade turns to look at me, his arm brushing along my own. “Do you somehow know the photographer?”

“She’s not only my best friend but also my boss.” I smile proudly.

Looking around, I spot Lexie and Ryder in the middle of the room with another group of people surrounding them. She gives me a giant smile and a thumbs-up as I give her a little wave.

“So I guess I found the right woman to give me a tour. You probably have a story for all of these,” he points to the photo in front of us.

“Most of them, but not all. I’ve only been working with Lexie for two years. She was already talented and famous before I started working for her.”

There are still days where I wonder how I got so lucky for her to hire me. I had zero experience being someone’s personal assistant, nor did I have any knowledge about photography.

For the next hour, Kade and I walk around the gallery. He tells me what he thinks about the pictures, and I tell him stories behind the ones where something interesting happened. I’ve drunk more than I should, but I’m following Lexie’s advice and letting loose for the night.

The longer we walk around and talk, the more Kade touches me. It’s little touches at first that linger longer each time. My skin feels electric as he runs one lone finger up my arm and then back down.

Moving to stand behind me, I feel the heat of his body, and I break out into goosebumps. Pushing my hair to the side, he leans down, and his hot breath washes over my neck. His voice is huskier than it has been all night. “Are you required to stay until the end of the event?”

“What do you have in mind?” I ask, leaning back against his tall, muscular frame.

His hand folds over mine. “Why don’t we head back to my place?”

Heat rushes through my body for an entirely different reason. The thought of being alone with this man and the possibility of him being naked in front of me has me about ready to drool.

“Let me tell Lexie I’m leaving, so she won’t be worried about me.” I expect Kade to stay where we were, but instead, he follows close behind me as if he’s afraid I’ll try to give him the slip. He doesn’t need to worry about that. I want him to slip me something. Something nice, long, and thick.

Lexie steps away from the group she’s with when I’m only a few feet away. She glances over my shoulder and gives a polite smile, and then wraps her arm around my shoulders as she leans down and whispers in my ear. “Damn girl, you did good.”

“Hush,” I giggle. “He asked me to come back to his place, but if you need—”

“You’re free to go whenever you want. If you want.” She pulls away to look down at me with a concerned look on her face. “Do youwantto go home with him?”

“God, do I. He’s so hot, and he said I’m beautiful,” I gush.

“That’s because you are,” she gives me a little shake. “Now go have fun, and if you need tomorrow off, I might be on board with that.” She all but pushes me into Kade’s arms. He’s a few feet behind us, giving me space. “Are you going to introduce me?”

“I thought you might be over meeting people.”

“I’ll make an exception for the man that’s caught your eye,” she winks.

“Lexie, this is Kade. Kade, this is Lexie Williams. It’s her photos you’ve been looking at tonight.” I say as an introduction.

“All of your pictures are beautiful. I can see why the gallery wanted to honor you tonight.”

“Oh, thank you,” Lexie smiles as Ryder laces their fingers together. Did Ryder think Kade was flirting with Lexie, so he came over?
