“Now you’re saying sweet nothings without buying me dinner?” He laughed and then shook his head. “Sorry, I’d resigned myself to the fact that it would take you at least six months to a year before you could get to where you are right now. I’m kind of blown away.”

I wasn’t sure how I felt about that.

“Jordan. Baby,” Cash grabbed my chin between his thumb and forefinger. “Sorry, I was deflecting with bad humor.” He brushed his lips against mine. “I love you, Jordan, and I think you love me too.”

I swallowed the lump in my throat. This was a lot to admit after only knowing him a couple of weeks.

“I do. I’ve never felt this way about another person in my life. You know, if you don’t want to go back to your house, why don’t you move in here? We can do it once we get back from visiting my parents. With your furniture, we can fill in some of the blank places in my sparse house.”

“While I don’t want to go back to my house, I don’t want to force myself on you.”

“There’s no way in hell you’re forcing yourself on me. If I didn’t want you here, I wouldn’t have asked.” Taking his hand in mine, I asked. “Now, what do you say?”

“Yes,” he laughed and smiled brightly. “You know, I’ve been meaning to ask you how you’ve got a house this nice. You haven’t even been out of college for two years, and you’re already living in a half-million-dollar house.”

It was a house I would probably never be able to afford on my own if it weren’t for my employer providing it, so I understood the reason for his question.

“I told you it was a job I couldn’t refuse. Leo got the same treatment, only now he’s making double what he did when he started.” Leo had set me up with a damn fine job.

“Damn, it looks like I caught one fine catch,” he smirked.

“Damn straight, you did, but so did I.” I grabbed his hand and linked our fingers together. Cash was everything I wanted in a partner. “You’re smart, treat me good, and you’re hella sexy.”

His face turned serious, and I watched as his Adam’s apple bobbed. What was making him so nervous? “Do you really love me?”

“Yes, I really do,” I kissed him, sucking on his bottom lip, and then let it go. “I know all this is quick, but you are who I want. Now and forever if you’ll have me.”

“You’re never getting rid of me. Not now. Not ever.”

I feltlike I was going to be sick. What if my parents kicked me out and never wanted to see me again after telling them the truth about the man sitting by my side?

“Hey,” Cash took my hand in his and ran his thumb over the back of it. “If you decide you can’t tell them this weekend, I’ll happily play your friend instead. I don’t want you doing anything you’re not ready for.”

I nodded because I knew he would, but I never wanted Cash to think I was ashamed of him.

“I’m not hiding. It’s time they learn who I really am, and if they don’t like what they hear, then I’ll have to learn to deal with it.” Even I almost believed what was coming out of my mouth.

I sat staring at my childhood home for another few seconds and then snapped out of it. If I waited any longer, my parents would come out and pull me from the car. Taking a deep breath, I let it calm me before I turned off the ignition.

With my hand on the door handle, I nodded my head, prepared for anything that might come my way. “Are you ready to meet my parents?”

“Yeah,” he chuckled. “I didn’t think I’d ever do this again. I kind of thought I’d be alone for the rest of my life. Plus, growing up, most parents didn’t use to like me.” He humorlessly chuckled.

Turning in my seat, I cupped the side of his face. My thumb brushed his full bottom lip and the stubble on his chin. “Well, my parents will love you. At least until I tell them that you’re my boyfriend.”

“Maybe we can wait to tell them Cami’s my sister?” He gave me a forced smile. “I don’t think that tidbit is going to win me any brownie points.”

“Probably not. They’re not her biggest fan.” Swallowing roughly, I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of the car. I was desperate to take Cash’s hand in mine for moral support, but I knew that wasn’t the way for my parents to learn about who I was dating.

As if sensing my need for him, Cash walked by my side, and every few steps, his fingers brushed against mine. “You’ve got this,” he murmured as the front door swung open.

“Honey, you finally decided to get out of the car,” my mom greeted me as I pulled her into a hug.

“I’m sorry. We were just talking. It’s good to see you, mom. Is dad home yet?”
