“You want to hear what she has to say, trust me.” Cash gave me a small smile, nodding to my mom. It didn’t give me any confidence in what I was about to hear from her, though. I held my breath as I waited for her words.

“Jordie, honey,” she extended her hand across the table, and I took it in my shaky one. “I don’t care if Cash is your boyfriend or if one day, he becomes your husband. I only want you happy and for you to make me a grandma someday. I need some grandbabies to love.”

Wait, what?

Did my mom really only care about me making her a grandmother? I was speechless.

“I think what Jordan wants to say is that he’d be happy to make you a grandma one day, but first, we want to enjoy our time together as a unit of two. If you can give us a few years…” Cash moved his hand from one shoulder to the other until his arm was wrapped around my shoulders. “I feel like we can make that happen.”

“Oh, of course. I don’t expect anything overnight. Take as long as you want, but not too long. I want to be able to spoil those babies.”

“What if we only want one?” I asked with a chuckle, feeling the weight of the world slide slowly off my shoulders. If this was her reaction, I’d give her a dozen if she wanted them.

Jumping up from my chair, I moved around the table to my mom’s side. Going down on my knees, I hugged her with a fierceness I hadn’t felt since I was a little boy.

Kissing her cheek, I pulled back, thankful for the way this day turned out. “I love you, mom.” Then, moving around to my dad, I hugged him. “I love you too.”

“We love you too, son. You never need to worry about that.” He clapped me on the back. “Now, let’s talk about what really matters.”

I looked down at him. “What’s that?”

“This surprise party you all have planned for me that you thought I knew nothing about.”

I was glad who I loved wasn’t the most important thing of the day. Instead, it was celebrating my dad’s life as he turned fifty.

“Here they come,”Jordan announced, his knee bounced as he looked to the entrance of the restaurant.

“You don’t have to do this, you know? We can say I’m a friend if you think—”

“I’m not lying to them,” he ground out, his eyes coming to me. They were fiercely determined. “Leo has been my best friend since college, and he was there for me when I finally couldn’t take anymore from Camila.” He barked out a laugh. “In fact, instead of us getting married, Leo and Everly ended up getting married while we were there. They didn’t even know each other before that weekend.”

That was interesting. Although if I had met Jordan in Vegas, I could see myself easily marrying him before we left.

Jordan jumped up from the table as a blond couple approached. He gave the woman a small hug. The guy, who I was assuming was Leo, picked Jordan up like he weighed nothing. This guy had to have at least half a foot on Jordan.

“Guys, I want you to meet, Cash. Cash, this is Leo, my best friend, and his wife, Everly,” he introduced us. I could clearly deduced who they were, but I wasn’t sure if Jordan had talked about me.

We all said hi, and they sat down, giving me side looks. I was sure they were wondering why the hell I was here at a dinner Jordan had invited them to.

“How are you liking it here in Oasis, Jordan?” Everly asked, placing her napkin in her lap.

“Besides it being hot as fuck, I love it,” Jordan answered. His hand moved to my knee under the table and gave it a squeeze like I was the one nervous.

“It’s miserable here for a couple of months out of the year, but the rest of the time, it’s quite enjoyable. I promise you even Leo doesn’t complain about it being too hot most of the time.”

“I can’t wait to take her to Sweden for Christmas this year and listen to her complain about how cold it is,” Leo laughed.

Jordan laughed along with him. “Are Luke and Alex going as well?”

“Of course, they are,” Leo laughed. “If not, my parents would be coming here to see Mason and Gracie. They love their grandchildren and are constantly asking us when we’re going to start having kids.”

“You’re so young, though,” I couldn’t help interjecting. While I was ready for kids, I understood why they wouldn’t be.

“That’s what I keep telling them, but they’ve got baby fever. For now, I want to enjoy my wife.” Leo leaned over and kissed Everly’s cheek.
