I never thought that I would have settled down and started a family. All I wanted to do was get the fuck out of prison and sign to a record label, but meeting Kenya Armani changed me immediately and instantly made me want to have more. When I found out she was pregnant and we made shit official, I knew I never wanted them wanting for anything or worrying about shit. Every fuckin’ thing their hearts desired, I wanted to provide.
I was going to provide that shit.
“You’re home early.” Kenya said, lifting Nai from her seat then sauntering in my direction.
As soon as she was close enough, I pulled her body into mine and kissed her deeply. A nigga had been waiting all fuckin’ day to do that shit. Once I pulled back, I took my baby from her arms and showed her some love. After I kissed all over her pretty face, she held mine in her small hands and smiled at me.
“Da-Da.”
“Nai Nai.” I smiled. “I missed you, baby.”
She smiled bigger then cuddled into me.
“She missed you too.” Kenya gushed, pinching our baby’s cheek. “She was running around the shop screaming your name for an hour.”
I smiled at my baby then glanced down at her mother. “Fuck you ain’t call me then if my baby wanted me.”
“You were working, Sanchez.” She playfully rolled her eyes. “We were going to see you when we got here.”
“Right.” Big Ma co-signed, walking into the kitchen to the stove where she lifted the lid on one of the smaller pots. “You did good with this rice, Yaya.”
Cooking rice had been kicking her ass. Either the shit was under cooked and still hard as hell when we got ready to eat, or she over cooked the shit. I remedied the shit by buying an instant rice cooker, but Big Ma was insistent on teaching her how to perfect it using the excuse that she was about to be a wife.
My baby could already cook and shit, but only basic shit. A nigga like me loved to eat, so I told her that she was gon’ have to get with her sister or my grandma and learn to make more than some fuckin’ spaghetti. I loved that shit, but I wanted variety around this mothafucka. She had been doing good as shit with her lessons with my grandma.
“Damn, Big Ma, you didn’t miss ya boy?”
“I just saw your big headed tail this morning,” she waved me off. “I knew you’d be back home soon.”
“I missed you too.” I grinned before going over to kiss the top of her head.
I walked me and Nai over to the large kitchen table and sat her down in front of me allowing her to fuck with my beads while I listened to her mother and Big Ma talk for a second.
Kenya fixed my plate and brought it to the table then grabbed Nairobi, sitting her in her chair a short distance away from me. I tugged her chair closer then fed her some of the rice and gravy from my plate.
Big Ma and Kenya joined us at the table after fixing their plates and we fell into conversation.
“Did Bryson come to audition, baby?”
“Man, hell no.” I laughed. “I went by his crib and yoked his lil’ ass up.”
“Sanchez.” Kenya giggled. “His dad is going to whoop your behind one day.”
I scoffed. “G’ll get dumped on his shit in front of his son playing around with me.”
“Shut up.” She laughed. “And stop cursing.”
“Don’t tell him anything, Yaya.” Big Ma fussed. “He don’t have one more time before this fork is in the center of his forehead.”
“Dang, Big Ma.” I laughed. “You woke up and chose violence today.”
“You know better than to curse in front of me and this baby, Chezzy. She repeats everything she hears.”
Nai’s lil’ ass was a parrot now or some shit. I couldn’t say anything without her repeating it as loud as she could. I was a grown ass man and Big Ma came upstairs and started beating a nigga with her slipper while I was asleep because Nai yelled ‘fuck’ while she was downstairs with her. Kenya’s ass cursed just like I did if not more, and still she beat my ass with her shoe for the shit.
“My baby is an angel.” I smiled at Nairobi who was stuffing the small piece of cornbread that I’d given her into her mouth. The crumbs and shit were all over her pretty face as she chowed down on the shit.
“No, she’s your child through and through.” My grandmother laughed. “Sneaky but cute enough for us to ignore it.”
